Geonosis was a hot, dry, desert planet in the outer rim and was home to the semi-insectoid species of Geonosians. The First Battle of Geonosis marked the beginning of the Clone Wars. The clone troopers, bred and trained on the oceanic planet of Kamino, were deployed for the first time into battle and fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems' poorly programmed battle droids.
Fritz gripped the co-pilot yolk as the Wayward Son shook and was dragged into the window in space. It looked like Raxanna was trying her hardest to keep the ship from losing control, but it didn't look like she was succeeding very well. Even though he had restarted the engines before Raxanna had taken the helm the thrusters weren't generating enough power and Fritz concluded that they must have stalled out when the ship passed through the window in space.
The ship was in a type of freefall, if this kept up they would all crash into the wasteland below and nobody would survive. He knew he had to act now in order to save everyone. Fritz had already memorized the control panel layout per his teachings back on Kamino. He ignored any comments or objections from Raxanna as he ran through the engine power cycle steps. As he finished he looked up, out the view port. "Not enough time to completely save the ship, there will be some damages. But we should survive if I implement this correctly." Fritz said to himself, he just hoped he could keep the ship mostly operational afterwards.
The clone slammed the thruster speed to maximum output, hoping to change their trajectory. The ship lurched forward, slamming into a thin spire a second later, sending it careening to the side. As Fritz wrestled with the ship he couldn't tell if Raxanna was trying to help or not, "Lower the landing gear! It's our only chance to survive this!" The thrusters were propelling them forward but they were still surface bound. As the ground raced to meet the ship Fritz hoped that lowering the landing gear to create a cushion for the ship would work like the old simulations.
Luckily there were no more obstructions for the Wayward Son to run into and they were aiming for open ground. Everything gre silent for Fritz a heartbeat before impact, then they made contact. The ship fell hard onto its landing gear as it slid forward, a second later the gear gave under the weight of the ship and the forwad momentum causing the ship to continue sliding on its undercarriage. Fritz threw the thrusters into reverse to slow their speed until they came to a rocky halt.
Fritz finally looked at a most likely furious Raxanna with a grimace on his face, "Another happy landing."
*********
I got up off the floor where I had been thrown due to the impact. There was random sparking from different panels that had come lose during the crash, along with some alarms that I had no idea how to shut off. I looked around to try to asses any damages or injuries but the smoke that had begun to fill the med bay was dense and difficult to see through, "Is everyone alright? Rai? Adi? Loki?" I asked as I felt different parts of my own body to make sure nothing was broken. Everything was intact, I did have a throbbing headache though, must have hit my head on something.
"Who in blazes was driving this thing?!" Yelled Echo from the cargo hold, "I'm going to kill someone or something when I get up there!"
"Well, Echo is alright I hear." I said to myself as I tried to clear some of the smoke from my vision.
Loki watched as a battle long passed flared before their eyes, suddenly they where through the rip. Loki realized almost immediately they where headed for a bumpy landing. Instinctively he wrapped himself, Rai, Adi and Anna in a force barrier as the ship began to careen towards the harsh ground of Geonosis.
Raxxie let the trooper take control she was still in shock from passing through space time. Her mind was reeling. She heard the trooper yell about the landing gear and she slammed the release button the landing gear came down with a loud stnick. "Oh kriff, oh kriff, oh kriff" She yelled as they hit the spire and she began to strap her seat in.
Loki gripped the others with the force, wrapping them in his barrier, and holding them in place, the rip was feeding him power, raw unfiltered, he held them tight so that they wouldn't fly and be hurt or worse killed, even Farris he held in place and the troopers too as best he could. Then they hit the ground hard. the impact jostling most of the clones and some of Loki's concentration they and Farris where further away and therefore harder to maintain. As Fritz hit the thrusters Loki wrapped the entire ship and mentally dug into the ground helping the strained engines slow the ship and bring it to a lurching stop.
There was no turning back now, that much was obvious. Even as Raxxie and Fritz fought to control the ship's descent, Rai knew it was not going to be an easy landing. Sitting himself in one of the extra chairs in the cockpit, the Cerean strapped himself in as he opened his mind up to the Force. Already, he could feel Loki's presence back in the medbay working to slow the ship. Rai decided it was time to help.
Who would have thought Jedi and Sith were capable of working together?
Rai's mind enveloped the ship, and he fought to keep it level, reducing the strain on the stabilizers so the ship wouldn't crash nose first into the dirt. His teeth were clenched tight, so much so, that he felt that they could shatter at any moment. And finally, he felt himself violently thrown forward as the ship finally collided with the hard ground of the Geonosian terrain. If it weren't for his seatbelt, Rai would no doubt have been tossed through the windshield, but instead, his lower part of his head violently whipped backwards and slammed hard into the seat. Sitting there dazed and with stars dancing around him, he waited for the ship to come to a grinding halt. Feeling that he was still alive, as was everyone else, he sighed. "This is why..." He took a breath to steady his heartbeat, "I hate flying."
Unstrapping himself from his seat, he moved through the ship until he found the landing ramp. Pushing the activation button, the door slowly began to descend but suddenly shuttered and screeched to a stop with an opening large enough for the group to crawl through. 'Without the landing gear holding us up to allow the ramp to fully open, this is the best exit we've got." He muttered to whomever happened to be within earshot. Crawling through the tight space, he finally exposed himself to the atmosphere and terrain of the foreign planet: a planet that he himself had never been to before.
The air was hot and dry, as was expected for a desert planet and there was sand everywhere: also to be expected. In the distance, he could hear canon fire, explosions, and who knew what else. They had crash landed in the middle of a centuries old battle ground, and now, Rai didn't even know what side of the battle they were on. But to his right, he could hear footsteps moving in unison, marching closer and closer. Just above the horizon, roughly a klick away, a large group consisting of B1 and b2 battle droids crested the large hill. But that wasn't the part that shocked him the most. Behind them, was an infamous AAT, moving idly toward them.
It was only a matter of seconds until the droids noticed the plume of smoke coming from their crashed ship and would come to investigate.
"Um guys?" He called back into the ship, trying not to sound too distressed, "I never thought I'd say this, but we've got clankers incoming."
They burst through the portal at near flank speed. It was uncharacteristic of Raxxie to panic...but considering the circumstances, it was to be understood. Bracing himself as best as he could with the railing, Adi held on for dear life. He could feel the force swirling around him...dark and light...protecting the ship and its occupants. Adi, too, did his best to help, projecting the force outward, attempting to bolster the resolve of not only the ones trying to protect the occupants...but also the ones in the cockpit.
It still didn't make the landing any easier.
They first clipped a column, then the ground came up rapidly. The ship slammed down, skidding to a halt. Whoever had shielded the crew had done their job well...Matango was able to stay holding onto the rail without further injury. But that wasn't the worst of their problems...
Rai spoke up, saying they had 'clankers' on their way to investigate the crash. Right now, Adieumus was definitely not ready for a fight at -all-...not til he had a good dip in a bacta tank. However, that did not mean he couldn't engage the droids. Pressing a few buttons on his comlink, he got a reply beep.
::Gregory, Get the combat CLoWDS out there. Send me the datalink for the remote HUD, and give me a status update on the repairs.::
Within moments, Adi had an exact virtual replica of the inside of his battle suit projected around him from his comlink. He looked over the repairs that had been made, and felt thankful that he had the suit rearmed immediately after each sortie...there was no time to do it now. Most systems were in the green, but the shielding unit was only at about sixty five percent. Repulsor systems were at about 90%, and the armor plating itself was at about 85% structural integrity.
It would have to do.
::Protect the ship, protect the crew, but above all, do -not- let this technology fall into the hands of anyone but our team. We can't allow for such a massive alteration of the timeline if it is found...it could be disastrous.::
The CLoWDS armor made a move toward the rear hatch, and the A-AI realized that it wasn't open wide enough. Needing another option, Gregory looked around, and when he found it, made for the top hatch. It took minimal effort to open it and get to the top of the ship. For the first time, from his virtual view in the medbay, Adieumus could see the damage that they had incurred. It wasn't as bad as he thought it would be...perhaps Raxxie had not been panicking after all.
A quick burst of the flight repulsors sent the suit skyward, and it scanned the enemy forces. Several hundred mixed battle droids, and an AAT. It wouldn't have been bad, but the droids had a shield over them, and the AAT had its own personal protection unit. This was going to be a doozy. Checking the status of the EMP pulse burst, Matango was quite dismayed to find it still offline. he had meant to repair it when he went back to Honoghr....and needless to say it did not get done.
This was gonna have to be done the old fashioned way.
The AAT was the target that was the largest threat at the moment...but under two layers of shielding, it wouldn't be able to be hit directly yet. Instead, Adi held the armor back, waiting to see what the others would do to engage the droids.
Anna wasn't sure what was happening. While the others saw the happenings outside the view port- Anna saw the true present. While they crashed into the rocky spire- Anna's mind flashed to the past, and the very creation of the planet itself. When they crashed into the sandy surface of the war torn land, the Seer felt the force splintering and fighting to reform itself around her and those here- pulling at them in less than noticeable ways. Anna felt it. They were NOT meant to be here. The entire process turned her stomach- and she stumbled a little as the ship came to a sudden stop- Loki's hold aiding her greatly.
Eventually, she just slid against the wall, slumping on the floor- and looking very confused- a trait not often found in the Seer. They were on Geonosis- During the Clone wars. She knew this, but the sporadic visions in her mind were screaming at her. Every so often, she found herself mistaken what time period she was truly in- but this kind of temporal dysphoria was very new and very strong. For a Seer who knew the twining future- to be trapped in the past...really wasn't settling well with her.
As Adi sent out the armor to survey the area, Anna turned to look at him.
Adieumus... be very careful. We don't know if this is technically our timeline... I- I don't know...
She didn't know- which is what was really driving her crazy. Standing, slowly to her feet, Anna blinked a few times- her mind settling, the visions slowly getting themselves under control, and a sudden feeling that, they did, in fact, have a goal. There was a way out of this. She didn't know what it was, but she was determined to find out. Fate was finally making some inkling of sense.
Looking up at Loki- she shook her head and took hold of her lightsaber.
There's a solution out there... And we have to find it.
Sitting idly by wasn't helping. With a brief nod- the Seer walked out of the med bay, making her way to the exit of the ship. She figured she looked enough like a Jedi- that, should they require help on the ground, she could be a blade while something was done to make the ship flyable again.
Farris felt the jarring impact of the ship as it hit the surface of Geonisis- but, with the slight force stability and his own fluid nature, it wasn't that big of a deal to him. He turned his silver blue eyes to the window- and frowned.
Do you see...This is why the force can be very problematic... Are those battle droids?
Farris blinked and shook his head. He gave a worried glance to Adi as he started controlling the mech suit- but he supposed that as long as the Arcanian wasn't physically going after anybody, it should be fine. Anna seemed to get her second wind back, and Loki....well the big guy could take care of himself.
Well- I'll be here if you need me.... or out there- depending on the situation...
The Polydroxol said, taking some odds and ends and stuffing them into his person.
The answers are always in the back of the book- so thta's where I start reading.
I followed Rai outside to help assess the damage to the outside of the craft. I hadn’t looked outside the ship so when I stood up and looked around, I felt a familiarity about the planet. “This, this is Geonosis!” I said more to myself than Rai. Then I heard the all to familiar sound of robotic steps in sync with each other, and the Cerean’s warning, clankers. “Never thought I would be here again fighting them again.” I said to the Jedi, “Are we really here or is this just a bad dream?” As I finished talking Adi’s suit rocketed into the air out of the top of the Wayward Son, “Yes. Please draw more attention to ourselves than we already are Adi.” I grumbled to myself. An army of battle droids nearby and he has to fly around like a beacon indicating there are lives at the crash site.
“I didn’t know why someone would re-purpose an entire army of battle droids for this planet, it was almost as much of a wasteland as Tatooine. But we need to figure out did it and make him shut them down for good!” I said to Rai as I watched Adi hover in his suit, “And why is he flying around? I thought you told him to stay put?”
Fritz looked at the control panel, which was sparking and smoking in a couple places, he flipped some switches and pressed some buttons trying to restart the engines but every time he tried all they did was whir up and shut down, “We aren’t going anywhere unless we find out what kinds of damage we sustained in that damage.” He stated bluntly as he looked at the female Zabrak sitting next to him in the pilot seat. She looked fairly shaken from the crash, “First time, huh? Don’t worry I’ve been through a couple, this is the largest ship I have successfully crashed.” Fritz put a hand on her shoulder and squeezed it to reassure her that everything was okay.
Fritz then unstrapped and made his way toward the cockpit entrance, stopping at the door he turned and looked at Raxanna, “You any good with maintenance? I have some minor skills but that’s just with LAATs.”
Echo picked himself up off the cargo hold floor, he had slammed his shoulder into one of the crates when they made their less-than-graceful landing and he wasn’t happy. He picked up his DC-15 rifle and helmet, he wasn’t actually going to kill anyone on board but he was going to give them a piece of his mind. Echo made his way to the main area of the ship just in time to see me leave the ship. He put his helmet on and followed me outside where he caught the end of my complaining. “Wait, did we crash on Geonosis? Why are we here?! What could we possible need here?” he asked bewildered by the thought of being here again since our first fight back at the beginning of the Clone Wars.
“Echo, we didn’t travel here on purpose. We were sent here by some sort of magic.” I stated to try to bring him up to speed quickly.
He looked past me toward the sound of the marching, “That sounds familiar. Too familiar, Dogma."
“Yeah, that’s the sound of hundreds of re-purposed B1 and B2 battle droids.” I replied, “Wanna take some frustration out on some old enemies?”
After the ship's crash landing came to a halt, Drez got up off the ground and dusted the Geonosian sand off his armor. He looked over at the other clone troopers and made sure they were alright, still swaying a bit from the slight nauseasness he experienced. While he didn't really care that much, he felt that he had to check on the other people who had boarded the ship.
Drez gathered his equipment and weapons that were displaced in the crash and adjusted a couple of armor plates. After that, he began walking up and down the ship looking to see if any other members survived the crash, which he eventually confirmed on his way out.
"No casualties. Another happy landing." Drez said to himself as he descended the ship's ramp and set foot on Geonosis again, for the third time. He looked down at the sand while rubbing his foot in it, gaining a feel for the planet's surface.
"Alright, it seems that we're back in Clone Wars era Geonosis." Drez started, sounding very calm and composed. "Now obviously there are going to be battle droids closing down on our position soon because of the crash's location. I suggest we abandon the shuttle for now and hijack a ship with a functional hyperdrive." Drez finished, not really directing his talk to anyone specific, but rather everyone who was present outside.
Rai surveyed the approaching army as the others began to meander their way outside. Above him, the sound of Adi's combat suit rung in his ears at it shot out of the top of the Wayward Son. Rai rolled his eyes at Dogma's question, "Iron Man better be piloting that thing remotely. if he isn't I'll kill him for not taking his prescribed bed rest seriously." His eyes scanned the shield that was surrounding the approaching droids, preventing any sort of ranged fight. Things were about to get up close and personal. HIs right hand reached down to his right hip, and unclipped the worn, brown leather bound hilt from his belt. Its design was comforting in his grip, a perfectly constructed weapon gifted to him by Mike for attaining Knighthood. It hadn't seen a lot of action, but the Jenruax crystal within it would augment his speed and agility. His left arm was lined with the forearm bracer that contained his collapsible shield, which lay dormant, waiting to spring into action.
"If I can get through that shield, consider it down." He stated bluntly, "But someone's going to have to cover my six."
He didn't wait for an answer, trusting that Dogma, Echo, Drez and the others would keep the droids from encircling him and knowing that Loki and Adi's suit wouldn't be far away either. The Cerean's boots crunched into the sandy ground with each step as he began to move forward, breaking away from the pack. He took a deep breath, settling himself deep into the force in a way he had not done so in a long time. He found Ashla's presence and he thought a quick prayer for strength and for protection. His eyes opened, narrowed in concentration as the silver blade shot forward from the hilt with a snap-hiss. Blade held out beside him, he broke into a run.
The wind rushed past him, whistling in his ears as he ate away at the distance between the advancing droids. And within a minute or two, he met the clankers at the halfway point. His body tensed as his pushed off of the ground, his body soaring high into the air: weightless as a bird. He brought his knees tight to his chest as he flipped once, twice, and on the third rotation, he went through the shield and his feet extended towards the ground. Falling, his feet caught a droid in its midsection, sending it crashing backwards into a two others. With his lightsaber, he swung it in a horizontal swipe across his midsection as he pivoted on his landing feet, slashing through metal as he spun 360 degrees, before the droids' processors could even respond to his movements. The droids surrounding him immediately fell to the ground, their midsections separated and sizzling in orange molten goop. His left hand extended away from him, and the Force rushed out of him sending a column of energy striking a line through the ranks, clearing his left flank.
Finally, blasters began to fire, and his vision was filled with red and blue, as his lightsaber became an impenetrable defense of silver.
The CLoWDS armor landed by Rai, and Adi listened as the Cerean spoke. Cover would be easy, until he got into the shielding. Those looked like pretty solid shielding units, and the CLoWDS weapons systems weren't going to be able to punch through this time with the current loadout.
It would have to be done the hard way.
Rai charged forward, and the suit followed, locking the first line of droids in the targeting systems. They passed through the shield at nearly the same time, and Adi attempted to fire the 25mm cannon....but it didn't fire. Cursing under his breath, he switched weapons, to the 20mm minigun...with the same result.
This time, the curses weren't under his breath.
With a growl, Adi switched weapons again, to the gauntlet repulsors. Luckily, they fired, and cut a path through the advancing droids. Twenty went down in a pair of straight lines in front of Rai, stopping only when the beams hit the shielding of the AAT. He fired twice more, cutting down two more rows of battle droids, and finally began to calm down.
The droids looked with as much horror as they could at the damage caused by the single battlesuit. They were not programmed to feel fear, but they were now experiencing the closest thing to it. Between the Jedi that was slashing and slicing his way through the mass of tan and chrome. It was impressive to see, with Rai blocking every shot that was coming in at him.
Blasters started to rip toward the low-flying armor, impacting the shield unit. With a pair of quick bursts from the repulsors, the CLoWDS took out another fifteen droids, and opened a path up for the Cerean to get to the main shield unit. Opening a voice com to Rai, Adi spoke.T
::There's your window! I'll cover you!::
And that's when the AAT opened up. The first burst passed slightly to the left of the CLoWDS, but the second follow up shot hit the armor dead square in the chest, sending it tumbling through the air. The hit dropped the shield to twenty five percent, as well. There wouldn't be room to take many more of those. It was up to Rai to get the shield down, so that the tank could be taken down. The droids were no real issue....but that AAT? It could end their trip quickly if it managed to get a shot off and hit the Wayward Son.
Loki looked as the other slowly slipped through the hole Rai had me. "That..Won't do." Raxxie was running around the ship with tools in her hands, and throwing tools at the one called Fritz so he could assist in the ship repairs. Loki looked at the ramp and hmmed to himself then he kicked it, using all of his strength, with a groan the ramp slammed down and Loki trotted down the steps, then a wave of signatures hit him force powers the likes of which he had never felt, not like this trained, poised. Two or three shone like beacons to his Force sense..Geonosis… Dozens of powerful light siders pristine battle droids, in a matter of seconds Loki realized what had happened. "YOU BLOODY FOOLS! This isn't just Geonosis!" He bellowed. "It's the year 22 BBY!" Loki waved his arms like a mad man, they had somehow been forced through space time and sent to one of the biggest watershed moments in history. That meant those bright light siders where Masters, Yoda, Windu and Obi-Wan-Kenobi.." And Lord Vader himself..." Loki said aloud in awe. Loki remembered this time, he had been training in secret on Korriban with the Assassins. "RAI! ANNA, DO NOT USE YOUR FORCE POWERS, THEY WILL FIND US!" Loki's red saber snap hissed as he brought it up droid blaster shots now hitting closer to him. "I have a bad feeling about this." He muttered and began sprinting towards where Rai and Adi where deflecting the few bolts he could as he went.
“There goes Rai again, rushing towards the enemy.” I said to Echo as we shouldered our rifles, “Better go save him again.” We both ran after the cone-headed Jedi and began blasting droids left behind by him and the flying suit of armor. As we enjoyed slaying the almost imbecilic battle droids, I heard Loki yelling at the top of his lungs about being in 22 BBY. Then it clicked, “That is why these droids are so easy to kill!” I thought, then out loud I said, “Echo! these are gen one battle droids!”
“If Loki is right, then these pieces of junk will be simple to take down.” He replied as he shot another droid.
The droids seemed more focused on the Jedi we were trying to help more so than two clones shooting at them. As we made our way further into the mess Echo and I started having to take cover from time to time as some of the B-2’s got “smart” and started shooting at us. I caught my breath while hiding behind a small mound of sand. I glanced around and saw the woman from the med bay stalking across the sand, I tapped Echo’s shoulder and pointed, “Guess she wanted in on the action too. Whelp, let’s get back at it!"
Fritz was following every instruction and command given to him by Raxanna, she knew her ship well and he was happy about that. None of this was even similar to the LAATs he worked on when he was in the Old Republic Army. Sure, part names and uses were the same but none of it looked the same as it did back then. As she instructed, Fritz worked on memorizing everything she said as well as followed every step to the letter. He was currently wedged under the floorboards trying to reach a bad motivator that had fried during the landing, “Almost... Got it... There!” he said to himself as he removed the bad part. “Raxanna! I’m ready for that new motivator now.” He then tossed the old one up out of the hatch and waited for her to drop the new one down. Fritz looked around the compartment he was in and wondered what else could possibly been damaged internally on the ship.
Drez watched as the battle droids marched in on their position. He knew his squad would definitely take a kick out of this and called them down from the shuttle through his commslink. "Squad. Arm yourselves and get down here. You're about to have some fun!" He grinned as he shut off the comms channel.
The black armored soldier watched as some of the other allies rushed straight into battle so he shook his head. He didn't want to come across any of the Jedi Order's knights or masters since he probably wouldn't help himself from revealing the truth behind the Chancellor, even though he firmly knew what the consequences could be.
Drez then loaded his rifle and took position over a small cliff and took cover behind some orange boulders. He was going to play this battle cautiously as he didn't want to die on Geonosis. Sure, he was reckless in battle, but he knew when to keep his head down. Plus, he was still shaking off the rustiness of the stasis. Without wasting any more time, he began firing down at the battle droids, dropping 4 of them immediately.
The clones exited the shuttle and we're stunned by what they were seeing. They couldn't believe what was happening around them. Were they really on Geonosis during the Clone Wars or is this just a dream?
"Hey! Stop dreaming and start blasting or we're all dead!" Drez shouted over the commslink. The clones started scrambling around frantically trying to take a good position while getting their weapons ready as Drez continued talking. "I think what happened was that we were reported back to Geonosis by somebody. How though, I can't answer that. Just focus and try to keep the droids off this shuttle so that we can get off this dust bowl alive."
Most of the clones were still lost in thoughts and couldn't talk, though they were still able to respond to Drez's commands. Flak and Wooley, however, rushed over to an injured Adi to provide cover for him. "We're just here to keep you alive through this." Flak said as he took cover behind a boulder and fired at oncoming droids. Wooley deployed a mini shield over the 3 of them for the time being until the threat is repulsed.
All of the troopers knew that droids never give up because they aren't programmed to do so. They won't retreat either so the only option would to junk each and every one of them.
*When Atton had boarded the Wayward Son for their escape from Honoghr, he hadn't exactly envisioned a smooth ride. But the craziness that had engulfed the ship and caused one of the rougher crash landings he had endured in his lifetime? It was making him question why continued to travel with Adi at all. It was always one thing or another with that guy, and now some else crazy was happening.
With a groan, Atton climbed to his feet, took a moment to make sure everything on his person was still there before making his way to the front of the ship, just in time to hear someone yell out something about clankers.
Wait, clankers? What the hell were battle droids doing here?*"You're kidding...you've got to be kidding me."
*Atton remembered enough of his history to recognize the planet they had crashed on, and the sight of the rather archaic looking battle droids that were now advancing on them made it click. It couldn't be possible, could it? And yet, he couldn't deny what was right in front of him as he squeezed through the partially open boarding ramp and squinted into the dust at the approaching droids.
He took the lightsaber from his belt and heaved a sigh as he activated the cyan blade.*"Why do I keep getting dragged into these things?"
*With that, Atton darted out and was noticed rather quickly by the droids, who quickly opened fire on him. He noticed that the droids had also opened fire on Adi(or was that just the armor?), Loki and the others who had exited the ship. As the droids fired on him, he began to deflect bolts back at them, staying on the defensive as he wasn't quite sure where they were at in the battle. Hopefully things would become clear when they had a moment to catch their breath.*"So does someone care to explain what the actual kriff we're doing here!?"
"Killing droids on Geonosis, Atton. The better question is -WHEN- are we. Now get past that shield and kill some clankers!"
The remote platform was absolutely fantastic! Even with less than a third of the weapon systems online, it was just like Adi was inside the CLoWDS armor, except he didn't have to worry about getting hit, and reinjuring himself. He was about to have a field day with that AAT, when the alarms for more incoming began blaring. Fifteen targets, moving at high speed, and a decent altitude.
Vulture droids...about fifteen of them...and coming -fast-. Opening a channel to Rai, Adi turned the suit to face the incoming threat.
"Rai, you are going to have to handle the ground guys. We have heavy incoming, and I'm in the best position to engage. Good luck!"
Activating the boosters, the armor rocketed off toward the incoming vulture droids. Before he was even in range, the blaster fire began to tear toward him. Too bad the active camo system didn't have enough power....he could have had a field day. Adi fired two bursts from the gauntlet repulsors, and five droids dropped. A burst of fire from the left sent the armor tumbling toward the ground, and the droids followed, spiraling down toward the ground and gaining speed.
While the hit had indeed done some damage to the shielding, bringing it down to less than ten percent, the fall was a ruse. Checking the inventory, Adi saw a pack of mini rockets was still active on the left hip. Closing his eyes, and saying a tiny prayer, he pulled the 'trigger'. Fifteen small heat seeking rockets spewed forth, and began tracking their individual targets. A few seconds later, the explosions started. The armor flipped around so that Adi could see the carnage happening behind him.
It was a glorious sight.
All ten droids were taken out in a single burst. Fire fell from the sky as Adi looked around through the virtual link. Debris rained to the ground, and the CLoWDS armor turned to blast off back to the group. However, alarms began to blare, and the entire inside of the HUD began to blink red. Power was down to eight percent, and the flight systems were beginning to malfunction. The shielding unit was completely out of power, and there was less than two minutes of flight time left in the power core.
It was time to bring it back.
A quick tap of a few holographic keys, and a message was sent to Rai that the CLoWDS had to fall back, or it would be lost. With the directional repulsors sputtering, the armor made its way back to the ship.
