Here was the RDMC's secret gem, a fully staffed bunker facility, with egress to and from the planet and the final fall back location for the entirety of the RDMC. There was even a hanger and shuttles for when things calmed down in the event of planetary escape being needed. The Wayward Son was stashed away here now, Micro having instructed Raxxie where to go and how to get in without being noticed. All the survivors of the Nysato and the battle at the RDMC had been moved there in the past hour by a series of underground Hypertrains.
I am nothing but Shadow against Shadow, for that is my path and my way.
The hyper train came flying into the station, its brakes locking hard as the sleek looking vehicle began screeching to a halt. Sparks flew from the wheels as they skidded across the metal rails. Finally, it skidded to a halt, and Rai felt his body moving forward, like when a vehicle stops too suddenly at a red light. Only because of his seat belt, did the Cerean stay held in his seat and in the stillness that followed, he ran his hand through his hair and smiled. "Another happy landing."
Unstrapping himself, Rai looked out of the train's viewport and into the hangar that laid before them. In the distance, he saw a shuttle that seemed to be big enough to fit all of the remaining survivors. He pointed at the Wayward Son. "That one over there seems large enough to fit all of us. We need to move quickly and get it off the ground before every thing is blown to shit. I'll grab Adi, you all help with the other clones," Rai's attention was directed mainly to Dogma, who was in the cabin with him. Over the course of their journey since Corellia, Dogma and Rai had grown close, like brothers. They often looked out for each other, although, a bit obsessively on the clone's part. But even through the clone's strict expectations for Rai, who's personal Jedi code lead him down a fairly different path than that of the militaristic lifestyle of Dogma, the Cerean found a certain affection for his new friend. And it was this friendship that was the only thing remaining that was keeping the Cerean grounded in times of strife and uncertainty.
He smiled and patted Dogma on the shoulder as he walked into the hold of the train. Bending down, he wrapped his arms underneath Adi's unconscious body and effortlessly lifted him, holding him across his chest, one arm in the crook of his legs, with the other around his shoulders like an infant. He cradled the man as he gingerly exited the train, quickly making his way across the hangar doing his best to avoid running into any stragglers. "Stay with me, Adi. Don't you dare quit on us now." He reached into the Force for comfort and reassurance. Immediately, his body felt warm in the presence of Ashla and was soon approached with a feeling of guilt dwindling in his stomach.
The Zabrak. Rai had left him behind. He'd sabotaged the Zabrak's only potential means of escape in a moment of anger and despair. He had sentenced a man to death, without a second thought.
"He was a Sith. He deserved it." He tried to tell himself, but even Rai could see through his own lies. The Zabrak had saved Adi. Without him, nobody would have known that Adi had even become a victim of this Order of Ruin's treacherous violence. Rai and this Sith had simply encountered each other in a hallway amongst the chaos of battle and Rai had given in to prejudice.
"What have I done?" The pit in his stomach grew deeper and heavier, his footsteps slowing as he battled through the haze of his thoughts. Healers were supposed to save lives, not end them.
The hyper train roared back into the station once more, the blast doors opening and closing quickly. It slowed and hissed to a stop, the doors opened and a bunch of ragged survivors exited followed by a tall Zabrak Jedi in emerald robes. He was helping a few people walk. At their rear came Loki much worse for wear the last time the others had seen him, he was scored in multiple places from blaster fire, but he strode from the train as though he where unscathed.
::Lord Loki, operation overrun was a success, all enemy troops and ships have begun withdrawing.::
"Thank you Niobe." He said as he walked forward towards where Rai stood over Adi. Adi seemed stable but who knew. Luckily some of the doctors as well as Rai where here from the RDMC and this place was well stocked incase of siege or other issues. "Jedi-Healer, how is Adi." Loki asked quietly. Dash stood off talking to a few of the security officers and survivors.
I was jarred to the present when the train came to a stop. Stumbling out of my memories I saw the tail end of Rai’s cloak exiting the cab doorway. Glancing out the viewport I noticed a spaceship, most likely our way off the planet. “Echo, Fritz, lets help our brothers off the train. Rai seems to know what he’s doing here.” We helped Drez’s squad who were still recovering off the Hyper-Train, which almost immediately closed its doors once everyone was off and began speeding backwards where we had come from.
“I guess there is some type of automated system on it or someone on the other end recalled it.” Mused Fritz as he helped one of the recovering clones to sit on the ground where they had gathered near Rai and Adi in the hangar.
I nodded, “We should be ready for any enemies that might have known about the train. If they recalled it, then we may be in for a desperate fight for our lives.” I said, probably more grimly than intended. A quick glance at the Jedi showed that he was too deep in thought to give any suggestions.
“We should leave as soon as possible.” Echo stated. Normally, I would poke fun at Echo for a suggestion like that, he was never one to turn down a fight so easily. But with the fight we had just come from, and the injuries some of us had sustained, it wasn’t a bad idea.
“We can’t leave just yet Echo. There is still the chance that the train was recalled by allies or other friendly survivors of the attack.” I decided after a few seconds of thought. “Drez, would you mind lending a hand to help set up a couple defensive positions with those crates over there?” I asked pointing at a pile of crates that were no more than thirty feet away. “If we were to move them to about here,” I said gesturing to a spot between Rai, Adi, the other clones, and the hangar entry, “it should give the wounded and recovering ample coverage from a potential attack.”
Fritz, Echo and I started walking toward the pile of eight waist-high crates and began moving them toward the place I had indicated earlier. The entire job didn’t take long as most of the crates were either empty or nearly empty of their contents. But no sooner had we finished setting up our barricade than I saw the Hyper-Train roll into the station.
“Pucker up, Buttercups.” I quipped, “The train is here.”
Before we were able to duck behind our makeshift barricade, however Fritz saw the giant Zabrack we had encountered earlier, “Wait, it’s just that Zabrak we met in the RDMC. He said he was a friendly.”
“Let’s go help whoever he has with him.” I replied as I watched a second Zabrak walk off the train, along with a bunch of tattered looking survivors. The rest of our time wa filled with making sure people were uninjured, and moving them to a safer location inside the hangar. And like before, once the last life form had exited the Hyper-Train, it closed its doors and whizzed back down its tracks.
“Guess it is automated.” Said an interested Fritz as he carried a wide-eyed, but calm Twi’lek girl who looked to be about nine years old in his arms.
Dogma's squad helped the clones unload the recovering clones off the train while the commando droids unloaded the supply crates. While they had escaped the RDMC with their lives, he knew that the enemy would catch up to them soon, so there wasn't a second to waste.
Drez looked over at the clone who had asked for his help and nodded his head in acknowledgement. "Yeah, I'll get some defensive positions up in no time." He replied as he pressed a button on his arm. With this command, a few of the commando droids made their way towards Drez. "I need you to get some defensive positions up with whatever you could find; crates, ships, tanks, debris, anything."
The commando droids acknowledged the order and proceeded to carry out the task immediately.
"Hey, where should we move these clones to?" Lex asked.
"Any idea which ship we're taking off this hellhole?" Kano muttered. He just wanted to get away from Honoghr and have a few weeks of peace.
Drez looked around and evaluated the ships currently present at the extraction point. After making a decision, he pointed at the Wayward Son. "Put them in that one over there."
Rai was in the process of boarding the Wayward Son with Adi in his arms as the Sith from earlier appeared and approached him. Soon, they were side to side, moving up the boarding ramp as the Zabrak questioned Rai about Adi's state. "He's stable for now. But he won't be able to fully recover until I can give him my complete attention. We need to get this ship airborne as soon as possible." Rai's attention was still mostly on Adi, keeping the Force flowing through him to allow him to breathe without difficulty and to stay comfortable until Rai had a better environment to get to work. He moved about the ship until he found a confined area that he could use as the medley. He laid the unconscious Arkanian on a clear table and turned to face Loki.
He reached into the folds of his robes and removed the Zabrak's weapons that he had surrendered at the RDMC. Now, Rai offered them back in a gesture of goodwill and as part of an apology. "About earlier..." He started, letting his eyes meet Loki's. The Cerean felt embarrassed and guilty from his actions. To leave someone to die, no matter their allegiance, was not the Jedi way. It wasn't Rai's way. "I'm sorry for leaving you behind. In my despair and grief, I was blinded in my actions. It was wrong of me and I'm truly glad you made it." Rai was sincere. He was telling the truth. He tried to manage a small smile, but ultimately, he didn't know how the Zabrak would react.
It came without warning- well sort of. In an instant, the sky was lit on fire. The doom of a once prospering planet that no one saw coming. Well almost no one. It took planning- and silence, but she figured she'd helped get a good number of people off world before the fireworks happened. Pulling strings, making suggestions to the right people. She couldn't outright say anything of course. That was forbidden- some times- like now.
~More life signs appraoching~
I can hear them....
The girl muttered to a faint, computerized voice in the back of her mind. Yes, it could be useful at times but spouting the obvious seemed to be it's general hobby as of late. She turned the page of her book, and huddled tighter against the wall behind a storage crate- far from anyone interested in the ship. Maybe someone noticed her slip on board- maybe not. Regardless. This was the right spot- on board the Wayward Son, and it hadn't even taken off yet!
Luckily, Anna was never late.
Except that one time....
Vibrations- movement- change. Sure the ship had been moved around sense last time The Wayward Ssn's med bay had been in use- but nothing like this. The place would be obviously designed for medical use, and if one thing was certain, it would be organized- perhaps too organized. Rai and the others would have no trouble finding what they needed. Perhaps the only unfamiliar thing was the round metal drum container nestled in the far corner of the room. But everything else would be rather similar.
The answers are always in the back of the book- so thta's where I start reading.
We finished up moving people to a safer location and making sure they were taken care of by the medics in the area before I told Raven Squad to head for the ship that Rai was boarding. “We don’t want to get left behind.”
“They wouldn’t leave us behind.” Joked Echo, “We are too important to be left. We saved a Jedi from Corellia, and all these people.”
“Echo. You know that was just the mission.” Returned Fritz as he walked toward the Wayward Son. “And we wouldn’t have gotten this mission if our if it weren’t for the reputation we have with our unit back in the Republic.”
“You don’t need to remind us. Besides we are trying to keep that under wraps while not with the Republic. Remember?” Echo gritted through his teeth.
“And what if everyone knows about our curse? It’s not like they’re all dead yet. And they are normally all dead by now.” Fritz countered smugly as he ejected and reinserted the magazine for his DC-15.
I led the way up the ramp and into the cargo hold of the light freighter. “Guess we are setting up shop here boys. Make yourselves comfortable.” I removed my helmet and set it on a crate, I then unslung my rifle and laid it next to it. Echo proceeded to lean against the wall and slide down to a sitting position, while Fritz hopped up and sat down on another crate making a crude triangle between us.
“All these heroics have me exhausted. I think I will take five. Wake me up when we take off or something needs blowing up.” Said Echo as he removed his helmet and setting it next to himself.
“I second that.” Concluded Fritz, who laid back on the crate, leaving his helmet on.
“I’m gong to go see if Rai needs anything.” I said walking back up to the main area of the ship looking for the Cerean.
Loki nodded at Rai as he looked at Adi laying nearly in state. "I never planned to come then, My A.I system had alerted me to survivors still within the facility. Operation overrun is a ruse. A bit of skullduggery that I myself thought up when we returned here from another mission..." Loki trailed off as he realized Anna was sitting in the corner. "Anna!" He yelped and slid to his knees as he rushed forward to make sure she was okay knocking over a canister of some sort as he did so. "I was afraid the plague got you." He said almost giddy with joy. This was a side he wished he wasn't showing in front of the stoic Jedi healer but he could care less. His weapons had clattered to the floor as he had ran to Anna. Adi was hurt, it was like after Etii IV all over again except Anna wasn't in severe pain though Loki was still smoldering in spots and most of his clothes where tattered again. He wondered vaguely if the good, doctor was with her as well and Raven Alora.. Soon the ship would be ready to leave loaded with Survivors a few others would be taking another ship nearby including Loki's brother Dash who had another mission in mind.
Everything seemed to move forward with the Zabrak without any mess, which was good. Now probably wasn't the best time anyway. Truth be told, Rai was beyond relieved that the whole self-destruct operation had been a ruse, meant to trick the enemy into leaving. But regardless, the grief that had stricken the Cerean's heart at the thought of losing someone left behind lingered in his chest. His chest felt tight, each breath he took seeming to require a conscious effort to do so. It had been a long, terrible day.
Scratch that: it had been a long, terrible month.
The Zabrak left Rai alone with Adi and for a few moments, Rai was alone to his work, using the Force to slowly mend Adi back together, trying to keep him comfortable while he rested. Then, he was alerted to approaching footsteps so he turned and saw Dogma approaching.
"We need to get airborne, Dogma. Being a soldier of the Republic, I'd expect you have had some sort of flight training?" Everybody was onboard and accounted for. What was keeping them? "I need a bit more time with Adi, and then I can come relieve you in the cockpit."
As so many people found their way into the medical room, Anna peered over her book- amber eyes flashing oddly. She opened her mouth as if to warn Loki of his collision with the canister- but she was too late. Fate Didn't tell her everything. She noted how worried he was,and with much less effort it had once taken, she stood to her feet- closed her book and smiled up at the large Zabrak.
It's good to see you again. I'm fine, no plague got me- but it looks like something got you.... She indicated his injuries and tattered clothing. Anna herself no longer wore the restrictive neural suite like what felt like so long ago. She'd made an agreement with The Array and it remained a part of her- at least for now. She'd managed to obtain her lightsaber again- a slender hilt with some odd etching on it. How Raven had found it after- well everything that had happened, was beyond even the Seer, but Anna was grateful. If Loki looked hard enough, he could sense the dark pulsating essence from the dagger, still ever present on her person- for Anna never let it out of her sight, for others protection, and herself. Slowly, the young red haired woman turned her gaze to Rai with a soft smile. Do not fret yourself. He's going to be fine. She indicated the Arkanian resting on the med table. Loki, you really should see to your own injuries. I've seen what happens when you neglect them. The girl, who normally sounded aloof, now sounded genuinely worried, not for the Zabrak's life, but simply for his well being. If Zeal had taught her anything- it was, that neglecting your own injuries was far easier than one might believe when a big enough problem presented itself. Zeal could kill without restraint.
Meanwhile, the large canister Loki had so clumsily knocked over- spilled a strange silvery liquid in a large puddle on the floor- which immediately gathered itself up in the nearest corner- rather than spreading out like any other liquid. The essence of irritation might touch the force user's perception- as the silver liquid found its way under the door of the nearest supply closet and vanished.
The answers are always in the back of the book- so thta's where I start reading.
I looked at Rai, a joking grin crossing my face. , "I can fly a ship, sure. But getting us off the ground? You might as well just get out and push! Haha! Nah, Fritz is our pilot. I will go grab him." I said trying to lighten the mood a bit. Not sure if it worked very well, but the joke helped my tired muscles move back to the cargo hold to grab the snoozing pilot.
Fritz and Echo had, of course, not moved since i left them about five minutes ago. I felt bad having to wake Fritz so early, but we were soldiers, we knew that others came first and we were there to make sure people got out of Honoghr safely. I walked over the my brother and shook his shoulder, "Fritz, up and at 'em flyboy."
After some snorting, gasping and arm flailing, Fritz sat up, "Bloody hell Dogma, what gives?" He rubbed his eyes waiting for the explanation as to the rude awakening.
"We need to get orbit-side ASAP. I could pilot this bus, but we all know my skills at takeoff and landing. Turns out you're our best and only pilot."
"Well why didn't you start with that?" He grumbled a few words under his breath as he hopped of the crate, grabbed his helmet and I followed him to the cockpit.
Fritz sat in the pilot seat and started the ignition sequence, "These XS's are pretty quick, we should be in orbit in no time." He stated as he let the engines warm up. Fritz then tapped the intercomm switch, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I regret to announce that you are not on a Coruscant transport, and we are currently short staffed. So if you need anything don't be afraid to get it yourself. Like big boys and girls that you are. We will be in orbit shortly, any shaking, shuddering or breaking apart of the craft is normal, as these things are older than the Clone Wars Era. Thank you for flying Republic Space Trans, and have a good day."
Once the engines were ready Fritz then raised the landing gear, grabbed the thruster lever and eased it forward. "These things have some speed, even if they are orlder than dirt." Fritz said, "If we run into any trouble I should be able to get us outta it."
The orange sky of Honoghr revealed the rising sun of the new day. A new day, for new adventures. The orand quickly turned to black as we entered the planet's low orbit. That's when I saw them, two dreadnoughts, sitting in orbit above the RDMC. Fortunately, it didn't appear that we had been spotted on radar, yet. "Try to keep out of their sensor range." I told Fritz as I quickly left the cockpit and made my way to the med-bay where I had originally talked with Rai. "We may have a problem."
