Still on Manaan, and trying to figure out the state of the universe after this massive cataclysm, Adieumus Matango got a message on a long-dormant piece of equipment...a comlink given to him that was specialized to only the Jedi Holonet. Funny, the Order itself was decimated. There -was- no council, not a soul left. The force users were few and far between....Matango had felt the lives snuffed, even in his two-month coma. So, hearing the name 'Grandmaster' on a link reserved only for Jedi? That deemed investigation.
Once outside the Mortus, Adi had opened a channel to the man claiming the odd title.
::"This is Adieumus Matango. I have heard you, and I will be responding. I have one stop to make before I arrive, but if I find who I am looking for, I will have two with me.
The Order is dead, though. You must know this. I am coming merely to verify the existence of the survivors, and the state of the planet. We will be in contact once we arrive. Please send coordinates so that we may expedite the trip.
Matango out."::
Adi was very skeptical....this could very well be a trap, set to eliminate any survivors. However, the promise of finding someone on the right side of the light was also something of a miracle in itself. It was too good not to take a look.
The Nu-Class attack shuttle hovered above the place where they were receiving a transmission from. Midnight Squad looked out the shuttle's front windshield and all they saw was this vine-engulfed, abandoned, disrepair mansion in the middle of Naboo's plains. Why would a transmission be sent out from a place like this?
"Are you sure about this place? Gives me the creeps." Vorik said as he observed the mansion in ruins.
"I guess we're gonna have to find out." Drez answered as he loaded both of his DC-15s sidearm pistols. "We don't want this transmission to draw any Jedi only for them to be killed, like the Coruscant Jedi Temple."
Jacky put 2 and 2 together and lowered on the throttle to allow the shuttle enough balance to land. As the shuttle was landing, Drez and Vorik walked over to the ramp, both with ready weapons.
"We need you two to stay here to guard the ship, Jackie and Izmar. Just make sure no stupid gungan will distract you." Drez told them, thinking of the clumsy Jar Jar Binks everyone knew and hated.
"Don't worry. We all learned our lesson from Jar Jar." Jacky rolled her eyes from behind her helmet. Drez gave here a thumbs up as Izmar opened the ramp up for them.
The ship had landed at least 100 meters away from the mansion, even though it still seemed large, as if they were right in front of it. The duo headed out towards the structure when 5 humanoid figures exited the structure and headed towards the duo.
Vorik's visor ran a scan over the bodies. "Only one of them is a lifeform, Drez." Vorik reported as he lifted up his weapon. Drez kept his weapons in place as both parties moved slowly closer to each other.
Both Drez and Vorik knew that there were snipers hiding in the mansion. The sensors in their visors had picked them up. Still, this 'Avery' guy didn't seem to much of a threat, yet.
The duo started talking to each other in a private, encrypted commslink, inaudible to anything outside the helmets.
"You know there are snipers in the ruins, Vorik, right?" Drez alerted Vorik.
"I can see that they like us being targets." Vorik replied.
"Just try to keep your cool. We're in open space. We'll be gunned down in seconds. No place to cover." Drez said as he switched off the private comms.
Drez removed his helmet, revealing a caucasian, young man. Vorik, on the other hand, was a clone of Jango Fett.
"I am Lieutenant Drez of Midnight Squad." Drez started. "And this is Vorik." Drez introduced. "We have two more members, Jackie and Izmar, on our ship over there." He pointed out the Nu-Class Attack Shuttle. "We were investigating 'this' encrypted transmission we were receiving. Care to elaborate?"
Drez was worried something would happen but Vorik just smiled smugly at the message relayed through the intercom. "You see this?" Vorik turned his head and pointed at a scar to the side of the head. "I had my inhibitor chip removed. This won't affect me! I can actually make my own choices now."
A breeze of relief flew through Drez. He was hoping Vorik wouldn't execute that order, knowing its consequences.
Drez knew exactly what they had done and he wasn't happy with it. "So what were you going to do if he executed the order? Just kill him?" Drez questioned angrily and clenched his fists, ignoring the fact that the snipers were targeting them.
Drez examined the lightsaber, he took from the Jedi, in his hand. He tilted it over to one side and pushed a button, igniting it. The lightsaber hummed as he gave it a few light swings.
"So you want me to kill you?" Drez asked smartly while looking at the saber. "I guess I've made my choice." He concluded. He rose the lightsaber up above his head and swung down. However, as he swung the lightsaber down, he released his finger off the button, switching off the lightsaber.
The lightsaber landed on the ground with a loud thud right beneath Samuel's feet. Vorik was standing there with his jaw dropped. He couldn't comprehend what had happened.
"I'm with the Jedi, not against them." Drez told Samuel as he put his helmet back on. "We disobeyed order 66."
Vorik braced for the worst to happen while Drez just stood there in front of Samuel with his arms crossed. The tension was high but both Drez and Vorik knew that they had won the Jedi over.
"How do they keep on accessing our comms?" Vorik wondered over the encrypted frequency. Never before had they been interfered with in their commslink but now it had happened twice.
"Drez, should I follow the coordinates or do I ignore? They weren't sent by any of you. Could be a bogey." Izmar came in over the commslink from the Nu-Class attack shuttle. It could've been a trap.
"It's safe, Izmar. Park the shuttle there and meet us inside the mansion." Drez replied. He didn't trust the Jedi yet but he respected that they had bowed to them. Never before had a Jedi done this.
Drez and Vorik started following the Jedi back to the mansion, unsure of what to expect from this meeting. Jedi never deceived anyone but they'd never heard of these Jedi before. The shuttle flew over them as it headed towards a hangar.
"Got a plan B if this doesn't work out?" Vorik asked through the commslink, gripping his weapon.
"I'm working on it." Drez muttered back, looking at the shuttle. His plan definitely involved it.
The 4 members of Midnight Squad armored up and readied their equipment. Drez engineered his own special system where when he presses something on his chest, his armor and gear starts building itself around him.
"Look at you, always having the fancy stuff." Jackie remarked as she hopped onto a speeder and ignited the engine. They were heading out towards the location of the Jedi meeting. They expected no less than 100 Jedi to be there, so they would have to be cautious to not upset any of them.
Vorik threw a bag full of blasters and grenades onto the speeder. Izmar shot him a look. "Always got to have insurance, you know." Vorik said with his arms up. Vorik and Izmar then proceeded to get into the speeder as well.
Drez opened up the navigation system and put in the coordinates Avery had sent them. "Alright, let's go." He told Jackie. Jackie floored the acceleration pedal, throwing the squad members back because of the force. Vorik and Izmar cheered in the back seat because of the fun they were having. Drez couldn't help but grin as the speeder kept on bouncing up and down through Naboo's grassy plains, throwing them around the speeder as they went.
The ride to the meeting location was uneventful, if not outright quiet, even with the military escort. Adi could tell that the men giving them a ride were well trained, and kept their eyes on both Matango and Loki...especially the Zabrak. They must have been informed of Loki's past.
Little did they know that the large Zabrak was most certainly on their side.
Regardless, the ride took about an hour, and Adi grew more nervous as the speeder grew closer to their destination. They were out in the middle of the lake country, and were far outnumbered. Matango had felt the energy coming from the soldiers, and they didn't -seem- to have any animosity, or anything like that, so at least that was encouraging. They had, however, disarmed the entire group before they departed. It mattered little, though...it wasn't like these guys would even stand any kind of chance if this -was- a trap.
Arriving at the Villa, the group was ushered in to meet their host....Samuel Alonzo Avery. While he was not a grandmaster, the former Jedi Master was immediately put at ease. Samuel was not here to attack them...he was legit, which brought an immediate sense of relief to Adieumus. This was no trap, as there were quite a few Jedi here....well over a hundred...maybe even a hundred and fifty. They were told to make their way to a place that had been 'prepared for them', and met someone that Adieumus -thought- he knew....
Diamonte Tuhlute....but this young man was not the Diamonte he remembered. Dia had been older, not a mere student, when Adi had known him. Then again, there were many shifts in Dia's life. Perhaps the cataclysm had affected him in a different manner. He would have to speak with the young man at a later date. That, however, wasn't the biggest surprise....
An energy signature that Adi recognized almost immediately approached him. A small toy lion bursting with energy came over, sniffing his foot. At one time, the very same energy signature had been in a stuffed tiger. When the voice came through his mind, it was unmistakable...It was Puck!! However, it would appear that the 'toy' did not recognize him. Adi would play along for now, perhaps later the little 'lion' would recognize him.
Loki had slept fitfully on the ship here, unleashing a force storm like he had took mass amounts of energy. He was still a bit groggy but he had shifted clothes and felt better. He was dressed now in simple Sith robes jet black and they fit him well, his hood was raised so only his eyes and lower face lay exposed his reddish skin gleaming as the large Zabrak walked off the ship and handed over his weapons to their escort. He grumbled something to Adi about this, and feeling naked without them though a quick look at their escort showed him that he could easily tear them apart with his hands, well trained though they where, only a force user and a good one could take on the massive Darksider. Loki itched at his neck he was surrounded by former enemies, never in a million years would he have come here when he was still bent on galactic domination. "So many Jedi survived the purge, yet so few at the same time." He said quietly looking back at the others in their party.
Loki watched as a little living toy approached Adi tentatively then looked at the others present he did not know, he could see the scorn in some of the Jedi's eyes as they realized who stood next to Adi Matango. Habit formed a sneer on his lips as he looked around the room, it was natural defense among those who wish you dead, at least for the giant Zabrak.
*The flight to Naboo had been far less eventful than their exit to Corellia had been. He had managed brief conversations with both Adi and Tireya, although nothing truly more substantial than just exchanging joy at being alive and some minor speculation on what might happen at the meeting. Other than that I spent most of the trip silently in the cockpit monitoring the ship's journey. I was a little concerned about the disarmament of my companions but when they didn't take my weapons or Tireya's saber I was heartened that maybe this really was just a Jedi meeting. Of course even if it was what it was supposed to be I had hoped to stay away, unfortunately Adi showing up and the subsequent attack made that impossible. The journey from the city to the manor was quick and when the face of the "grandmaster" was revealed I can't help but snicker a little bit. I didn't know he man personally but anyone arrogant enough to call himself grandmaster was definitely not someone I had much desire to know, but he kept his tongue for now, he didn't want to be here and he planned to let it go on as quickly as possible so he can leave. He did note that aside from Tireya and himself he didn't recognize any other Corellian Jedi. It was a sad, but not unexpected revelation.*
It'd been a long flight from Corellia to Naboo, but it had been one where she had been able to reconnect and catch up with an old friend of hers - Mike Frantz. The trip had allowed the two to exchange in brief conversation, but the chaos that had overcome the universe in all but an instant did not really allow for such conversations.
For much of the ride, her hand had rested on the hilt of her lightsaber that hung by her right hip - somewhat of a measure to ease her nerves from the fact that such a menacing figure had so willingly aided in their escape. The man was dark and cruel in her eyes. He had embraced the dark and relished in the slaughter of so many, though it were necessary to secure their escape from Corellia. Sure. The people weren't exactly cognizant anymore, but there deserved a better fait than they had been given. She felt great sorrow for them as the now lay upon Corellia in pieces and it was anyone's guess as to what the plagued victims would do with the corpses.
Wiping her face with a hand, Tireya brushed a tear that had escaped her eye.
To her right, Mike stood and before them, this man that must have been the one who called himself "Grandmaster." As the weapons were seized from Loki and Adi, Tireya felt a wave of relief wash over her. She felt no comfort in either of those two being armed as they had been before.
Tireya didn't say anything, but did offer a slight nod of the heading as a courteous greeting.
Adi chuckled, and nodded as the one introduced to him as 'Diamonte' walked away and found his seat. Master Avery began to speak, talking of wanting to rebuild the Jedi Order. To Adieumus, this meant very little, except for the fact that more individuals would blindly follow ideals that would lead to people getting killed. Balance was the key....not one side or the other. It was more religion than an Order....
...More had been killed in the name of one religion or the other than any other un-natural means....up until the Red Eyed Death.
That was the moment that the former Jedi again caught the conversation. Odd that it had already turned to the plague....and the Emerald Crescent? Did he mean the RDMC? Who was this guy, really?
And could they truly trust him?
This was the biggest question on Matango's mind right now. However, there was no harm in sharing information about something that affected -everyone-. The more the word got out, the better chances there were of finding out exactly what happened.
"The doctors, at least the ones that are left, have isolated the plague virus. It was difficult, due to the fact that the live infected are so violent...and once they die, the virus dies with them. Here, I can show you what the lead physician there has shown me. My apologies for the datapad hijacking, but it's going to make this much easier for all of us."
He adjusted his comlink, and...using some LAN tech developed by the self-same doctor that was also combating this outbreak...broadcast it on a secure channel to the entire gathering. Dr Bismarck's message to Adi over Corellia was replayed, showing the mass carnage in Coronet City at the end of Bismarck's broadcast.
"There is no vaccine yet, and most certainly no cure. Right now, the ones that are susceptible have no defense against it. It would seem that the uninfected have some kind of immunity to this 'Red Eyed Death' as well. The doctors at the...erm....Red Dawn Medical Center are working around the clock to stem the tide of the infection. Bismarck has assured me that a cure is most certainly on its way...but until then? We need to ensure the safety of those that have been able to weather this storm....all present company included."
Matango closed the link to the other Jedi, and nodded to Sam that he had given the information he knew. He waited to see if there were any more questions. He was getting a little antsy though...He had not been around a gathering of Jedi like this since he had been part of the High Council....
As it stood, this type of gathering would be one he avoided like...well, the plague.
Midnight Squad entered the meeting hall suddenly, surprising the many unfamiliar Jedi faces. The 4 troopers had their weapons put away, despite still being visible to the meeting's participants. The 4 troopers stood tall as they walked.
Drez's advanced recon system picked up gasps from all around the room and could feel some of the present Jedi become uneasy. He knew why of course. The armor the squad had on was Clone Wars era style armor. Armor notorious for being worn by troopers who purged the Jedi during Order 66. He could see some lightsabers being unhinged from belts but he shrugged it off and kept on walking.
Drez stopped in the middle of the hall and folded his arms, with the other squad members standing behind him. "So what did we miss?" He asked.
Well this meeting had certainly not gone as the Master Avery had planned. It had been called to set in motion the foundations for a new Jedi Order and how life could move forward in the wake of the cataclysmic plague. However, as was obvious from the flow and now sudden closure to the meeting that nothing had really been accomplished here. The devastation of this "Red-Eyed Death," as Adieumus had named it, had shown just how disorganized and directionless the Jedi had become. Death toll so terribly high, that you could physically feel the shift generated in the Force. Trillions of voices had cried out with a flurry of emotions and been nearly immediately silenced. The Force still echoed with the price of death had been paid to this point. Any sensitive to the Force would be able to feel it. For those untrained for such things, it would surely draw them into the darkness. The agony and disdain was simply too great.
Tireya shifted in her seat, but did not say anything. Instead, she simply took note of everything that had come of this. Simple and obvious statements. A group of people with no unified direction and no plan. This meeting had shown several signs that the Order that once was, is no more. And further disheartening, was that signs seemed to point in the direction that the Order would never be again. Sorrow filled here to the core at the thought, but she quickly turned from it. Such emotions were not incumbent of the Jedi.
Her hand rose and gently brushed a tear from her face. She would have plenty to inform her brother and Jedi Master, Geir, of. He was a leader; she was not. Perhaps he would be able to help organize and push for the Order to be reborn - something she knew she would never be able to do. Being a leader was not in her. She was a consular and a healer. A follower and role player. She did not see herself as any more than that.
*Throughout his life and career as a Jedi, Atton had never been one for formalities, and often found himself on the outside looking in when it came to the decision-making process. Today's meeting about the shit-storm that the galaxy had become in regards to the plague was no exception, though it was a testament to the gravity of the situation that he was even here, albeit quite a bit late. Then again, who knew what would have happened if Adi hadn't asked him to come here. The galaxy really was going to hell in short order. This wasn't something he could just run from anyway.
Speaking of Adi, the man responsible for literally throwing him out of a flying ship was around here somewhere...*
