So, things were weird for me. And, it didn’t get any easier regardless of how i tried to relax. It started out with the man that claimed to be grandmaster sending everyone their separate ways. as the last group was departing, i was told it probably wasn’t best for him to take on an apprentice at the moment. but i was presented with a restored com as well as a flat bladed lightsaber. one he claimed to be made by a craftsman that also bore the name ‘Tuhlute’.
this was the first thing that brought joy to me. My father was here in one form…
Then there was the 3+ day journey from Naboo to Honoghr. most of the people on the ship seemed nice enough… at some points i even offered to cook rations for one of the meals. But something seemed off whenever Master Matango looked in my direction. It didn’t seem like he saw me. maybe it was the fact that i was traveling with my father’s old companion, “Puck”… or maybe it was something else… but i just kept feeling like he looked at me, and all he could see was my father.
At least Puck is taking to Adi well… the ol’ boy needs someone he feels comfortable around
As for how i kept busy, I had my com. … and whenever i saw a moment to use an unattended terminal, i would use my control chip and search for information. both internally on the devices i was using… and externally to see what this reality knew of my beloved Instramta. I found out that the button marked with a starbird was a direct program into the Jedi holonet… (something that seemed abandoned since the grandmaster shut down main server for relocation.) but the blank button took me to a command screen. after some time i managed to force a single word that brought me joy “Saisei”
But then again… nothing lasted forever, and before i could try and dig deeper it was time to drop from warp. quickly i ejected my drive and helped as instructed to land this fossil of a ship.
on the ground I coaxed Puck into spending time cuddling with Adi. I explored the hallways trying to stay close enough i could figure out how to make my way back by sound, but far enough away that i could be by myself for a bit. This situation wasn’t the best. …i needed someone to train me… and if the jedi order wasn’t reforming i would have to look elsewhere. i opened up the Command screen again until i managed to get the word “Saisei” to appear. a few more command prompts and i was in a chat room… one request of help caused the comm to ring
“Hello, my name is Sok’ari Tuhlute. I need support, please wake up the captain of the honor guard…”
I covered my mouth to the speaker to utter a the family motto in instramtan. a green checkmark gave me assurances. i tried to make my way back to the group, but i was intercepted by a twi’lek doctor, who after verifying my identity marched me, along back to the group i had gone absent from.
Adi entered the RDMC main complex, and looked around in near disbelief. The staff was probably less than half of normal, and they all looked haggard, tired, and worn down. It wasn't surprising, though....the virus had crushed pretty much everyone and everything it touched. At least they were still able to function decently. There were also a lot of volunteer helpers flitting around the medical center, doing all they could to help.
It was good to see, and Adi's spirits were lifted a little bit.
He made his way to the main lab, and looked for Dr. Bismarck. It didn't take long to find him...Adieumus just had to look for the man hunched over a microscope, lost in his own little world. Approaching the doctor, Adi cleared his throat. Looking up from the microscope, the good Doctor smiled when his eyes fell upon Adi.
"It's good to see you! Our progress has been....well, since you had us send a team to Coronet City, we have been able to make a lot of headway in figuring out how to beat this thing. Here, take a look." Bismarck handed Adi a datapad, and began flipping through slides of the progress. They were -so- close....the early stages of the plague could be countered with what they had now, and it was helping those freshly infected...before the primal rage set in.
"We are so close, but we just can't get it past curing the early stages. We -have- to find some way to break that wall. Every disease can be cured with the right ingredients....
We just don't have 'em yet." Dr. Bismarck plopped heavily on a nearby stool, and sighed. It was apparent he hadn't slept in days, and Matango could tell he had lost weight. The good doc was giving his absolute all to cure this damned menace, and it showed. It was physically taking a toll on him. Adi walked over, and put his hand on the man's right shoulder.
"You are doing a fantastic job, Doc. You are giving your all to this...I can tell. When was the last time you got any amount of sleep? Something to eat? There are others working on this too, you know." Bismarck looked up at Adieumus, and shook his head.
"Volunteers and green hospital staff. We suffered HUGE casualties in the initial outbreak....almost 70 percent here at the hospital. If it weren't for the ones trying to help us, we wouldn't have been able to keep up. Unfortunately, they don't have the knowledge or training like I do. They aren't able to do what I can as far as working on the cure.
They are a blessing, but I'm about the only one here able to do this." Bismarck sighed again, and his head dropped slightly. The strain was wearing on him...but it was apparent how determined he was to succeed. Adi pressed a button on his comlink, and opened a channel to the service droids in the cafeteria. Ordering some food be brought to the lab, he turned to the doc.
"All I know is this....without you, the universe is going to be far worse off. You are doing all you can, and it shows. Honoghr is nearly infection free because of you, Doc. And there will be billions more saved once you get your breakthrough.
I ordered you some lunch. Hope you guys like pizza."
Grinning, Adi again patted Bismarck on the shoulder, and nodded. The man was doing amazing things with the situation he was being forced to handle, and Matango was immensely grateful. Perhaps they could find the breakthrough they needed with the team that had been brought from Naboo....
...Stranger things had happened in the past....
A voice wafted through the force, it was a man Adi knew of, but not truly knew....Geir Hammand. Apparently he had arrived shortly after the Naboo squad.
::We are indeed working on an antivirus. Doctor Sven Bismarck is currently in the lab, as am I. If you wish to help, it would be most welcome. Please meet us at the main complex laboratory...we can most certainly find a place for you.::
I looked down at the cart that the nurse pushed as we headed for… wherever it was we were headed; I counted once more the contents. My data com that I could use not only to serve as transmitter but also a text based communication. A comm chip that I could plug into nearly any system to transition it to an amplifier, my own lightsaber… a rudimentary and ugly stick of metal that did the job of defending me between my turn at the gathering and when I left following my father’s murder… and the gift saber. Supposedly the first flat bladed saber father got that didn’t explode. A gift to Master Avery.
And all of it three steps out of my reach as the security guard held my wrist as we walked. I hoped it would was to rejoin us to the others… and a gentle sensation confirmed it. The doors opened and there were Adi, a doctorman I didn’t know, and Puck (who was cuddling as close as it could to adi)
“excuse us for the interruption sirs, we found this young man loitering in the halls, using unsecured comm devices to contact an outside entity. He claims to have been on your shuttle… and he claims his last name is tuhlute.”
If any of them were the first to react, it was Father’s aide, Puck. Despite its age the spirit toy sensed my unease and leapt from Adi’s side to my own. And then something I did not expect. Puck mustered all it could and cast its form from a platiscene toy to a miniature adult tiger… using intimidation to get the guard to drop my arm allowing me to move out of range. When I had I stroked pucks aura with my own. <<thank you>> immediately the form changed back and the puck tumbled forward into my arms…. his light not extinguished, but very dim.
The 4 members of Midnight Squad stepped into the RDMC complex. They had been told to follow Monte and Adi to the complex, but for what reason? They didn't know yet. One thing they could make out from this complex as they walked down a hallway was that it was a research facility trying to find an antivirus for the so called 'plague' that had wiped out millions of species.
The squad had no idea how the plague started and what it caused. They were somehow awoken from their stasis and found themselves in a plague crippled galaxy. Now they're tagging along with 2 Jedi they barely knew and who knows what they want of them.
"I like how we're just roaming randomly around this complex, not knowing where we're going." Lex sarcastically remarked.
"You know." Kano started. "I'm not sure why you trust these Jedi."
Drez looked at him, still walking. "I don't trust them, yet. But what else is there for us to do?" He said with a shrug. "Besides, we've always trusted Jedi. What makes them any different?"
"Maybe they'd want revenge because of Order 66. I mean, We are clones, except for you." Izmar said.
"Order 66 was a thing of the past." Drez said. "Besides, Jedi don't seek revenge. Plus, they need all the help they can get now."
The squad continued roaming the halls, waiting to find someone they've met at least. They then randomly chose to enter a room labelled 'The Laboratory,' probably was their gut instincts telling them to do so.
Loki finally left the ship, he had been in his cabin. Meditating. Deep in thought he absently made his way to where he could feel Adi. He seemed preoccupied while he walked. Something was wrong in the universe, not just the infected, which where mostly dead anyway. The lack of life force in the galaxy wasn't just hurting the Jedi, Loki could sense the emptiness the infected and their victims had left in the force, like a gaping scar. Perhaps they should track down Zenoma Sekot and ask a living embodiment of the force for help.
Loki had been thinking since the meeting that the galaxy needed a change. Asrah and Bogan where once worshiped as one, Loki felt they should be again, He planned to bring it up to Adi when the time was right, and if he would take the mantle of Je'daii with him, those far gone users of the force, that chose both sides, that saw the ability to do good despite how one used their powers. The jedi considered themselves peaceful yet still trained in fighting, why not give the best advantage to their warriors and embrace their emotions.
"Adi..." Loki whispered as he entered the lab looking around. Wondering what they where up too. "Doctor." Loki said nodding respectfully, the same clone troopers at theed where here now. Loki eyed them warily. He did not trust clones. He never would he had learned the history of Sidious and while he admired his use of Clones he knew better than to trust living beings that could be programmed as they where.
Mel made her way into the complex and tailed Adi keeping her eyes and ears open as she did so. She didn't really speak to anyone or show signs of wanting to at the moment. She was taking in the actions of those around her, while she shouldn't be surprised she still was at how many people knew Adi. Ever since her landing on the planet she had been concealing her force presence so that she wouldn't stand out too much to the other force adepts around her.
Taking note of the troopers and their conversation about why they were here and if it was safe for them to be with past events coloring perceptions of them in the eyes of some. The Zabrak was interesting in his own right but she was paying more attention to the clearly worn down but still proud Scientist or Doctor who was speaking with Adi all this time. She also hadn't missed the man who seemed to be following her as she moved through the complex though so far he had shown no signs of harboring her any ill will. Her instincts were nagging at her that things were going too smoothly so far and she was waiting for something to go wrong in some way or another, it always did after all. So she kept vigilant for when that something went wrong while doing her best not to look sketchy due to her vigilance.

He had wandered the halls of the medical center for a while after somehow losing track of the woman he had been following. Having not been here before Kirwin got turned around more than once. Truthfully, he didn’t even know where he was going since he lost the woman. Kirwin popped his hooded head into a couple rooms, most of which only had some furniture in them, until he finally found a room labeled ‘The Laboratory’. “This place is a maze if you don’t know where you’re going.” Kirwin said as he walked into the laboratory, where he stopped short when saw a group of people he did not recognize, “Wait, my bad. I must be in the wrong room.” Then his eyes fell on the woman he had been following, “Nope, I think this is the right place.”
Kirwin tugged on the rim of his hood toward the female and found a chair in the corner of the room. Turning it around he sat in it backwards, resting his arms on the chair back and watched all the staff skitter around. Kirwin surveyed the rest of the people with his cybernetic eye, trying to pick out any possible threats in the large room.
::A group of four troopers huddled talking amongst themselves, heart rates slightly elevated. Worried about something?::
::A Jedi spoke with an elderly staff member, whose heart rate was quite slow, possibly from exhaustion?::
::A Zabrak stood watching the Jedi and staff member converse, twoheart rates detected, both slightly elevated::
::A teenager with a facility guard, the uniform gave him away, both of which had elevated heart rates. Source unknown::
::The woman Kirwin had been following, heart rate normal::
“Nobody appears to be dangerous. What is taking Geir so long? I know I was lost for a bit, his padawan couldn’t be that heavy.” He thought to himself as he continued his watching and waiting.
Some time had indeed passed since Geir and Kirwin had landed here and Geir had chosen not to follow as Kirwin went about exploring the complex. He even let a small smile grace his face as he had no doubt the young man would get turned around quite a few times before he finally found where he was hoping to be. It was reminiscent of his own first expedition here, where he himself had gotten turned around a number of times and had it not been for the helpfulness of the Red Dawn staff, he would have never found the location he was needed in.
But alas, what had really kept Geir from the rest of the group that had assembled was that he was awaiting the medical crew that had been dispatched to recover Kotyr's remains. Once that had been accomplished, he'd pressed his way into the facility.
After a few minutes, the Jedi Master made his way to the room where everyone else had gather. An odd place, really, to have any kind of meeting or summons. Typically laboratory technicians and doctors liked their space when enthralled in their research and the assumption was that this would be no different.
Geir looked to Adi and gave a respectful nod of greeting, but remained, himself, toward the back of the room and simply observed all gathered before him.
Well...it was a damn good thing Adi ordered quite a few pizzas....there were more and more people showing up in the lab by the moment...the appearance of the young Tuhlute.
"Young master Tuhlute is welcome anywhere he wishes for the most part. He has credentials from the Emerald Crescent Medical Complex...he is on loan to help with the antivirus research. He's one of their up and comers. He is here by my personal request. Thank you, Lieutenant. Grab a slice on your way out if you want some." The security guard exited, grabbing a slice of extra cheese as he did so. Munching happily, he walked down the hall. It was with a mouthful of pizza that he pretty much ran into an armed security squad.
They weren't HONSec....That armor was totally wrong.
He put up his hand, in a basic halt gesture.
"Woah there, guys...who are you? There aren't supposed to be troops outside of sectors four and five. You are well out of that area. Identify yourselves." He gulped a little heavier than he should have...but he -was- outnumbered four-to-one, with no one from his security team anywhere nearby. Still...he had to try....after all, there were quite a few so-called VIP types up ahead in the lab. His job was to make sure they stayed safe.
Speaking of...back at the lab... The various lab techs, and even Bismarck enjoyed the momentary reprieve they were getting. Adi walked over to Loki, holding a double-sized box to him.
"Take note...the steak is =perfect=. I don't want you throwing anyone or anything through a building this time." Chuckling, Adi grabbed a slice of cheese out of another box, and walked back over to Bismarck. A few minutes after, another man in a hood, followed by a familiar face. Matango nodded back, and pointed to the food, waving them to show that they could partake as well. It wasn't much, but it was a simple comfort to Adieumus. There had not been many smiles on anyone's faces lately...and something so small could bring levity to a dire situation.
As the security guard walked away I quickly snatched my comms gear back… leaving the lightsabers behind because i could watch the strings of movement wind, and any that involved me sneaking them back early just pushed the confrontation all the sooner.
tucking the chip back into the pocket my hand ran across the ID badge i was using. forgery or Dad’s old card… the badge granted me permissions. It was emblazoned with the Emerald crescent and there in the corner was my mini mirror of who everyone stared at when they looked at me. The suite of illusions i employed to shroud me was impervious to anyone who had never met my father, and even those that did know him could be fooled long enough.
But snapping my attention to the moment i remembered that it wasn’t just the appearance that i had to maintain. I was a little too wary of the food before me, and so i took a small moment and coded out an app and snapped a picture of an alternate box… one for those that wanted more than cheese
Analysis No truth agents or compromising chemicals
Conclusion Safe to eat ☺
I placed Puck gently on the table near me and took a slice of the pie. Not that i was unaccustomed to such… common food from my rearing… but i did like how it gentle spiciness tickled my tastebuds. Trying not to appear uncharacteristically gluttonish, after the one slice i picked Puck back up and held him close enough that i could help his light with my own. as i focused inwardly on getting puck to wake up, outwardly i was aware of the conversations going on… the small chat between the Jedi and the trooper, the Zabrak that still spooked me with the Boganaura.
But my mind kept going back to the Doctorman. This meeting wasn’t like the one Master Avery threw to try to establish a new order… this was specifically to find a cure for this plague before whomever unleashed it was ready to unleash the sequel. then an idea struck and the gears in my had started to turn. the ideas led me to only the conclusion that the source of this outbreak had to be beneath the subatomic realm. Midichlorians.
I braced myself, trying to sound with my father’s speaking voice as best i could.
“It is too weird that a plague like this could hit the entire galaxy simultaneously. Flora, fauna… What would happen if the plague infected something it couldn’t escape from? like a Kyber crystal? it could be possible to have a petri dish of the plague”
Loki scarfed a few slices of Pizza down and looked at the young boy speaking. Loki cleared his throat and stepped forward. "It's possible." He said quietly reaching into his robes. He pulled out a blood red gem, larger than most saber Kyber crystals and let it float above his palm. "Kyber crystals while shaped like gems, are like Midichlorians. They are alive, in a sense. Organic at the core. However I think behind minor instability, if infected it would not harm our weapons." Loki stated looking at Adi Loki began to pace. "Like this for example." Loki unclipped a curved bone like hilt from his robes and ignited the blade, an unstable yet steady beam of black energy burst forth. "This crystal is cracked, it has been unstable for years. I think this virus would have a similar effect on blades. Or the worst case scenario, short circuit them all together." Loki disengaged the blade and clasped the other crystal with his hand and tucked it within his robes once more. More people where arriving. "Perhaps, though what your asking, is to view the Virus in a different form. Attacking organic matter perhaps, what say you Doctor?" Loki said nodding to the seated man.
Not being overly inclined to work in the science fields of the universe so most of what was around her she didn't know much if anything about. Calm eyes panned around again as more people were still showing up. Taking a piece of the food that was provided for them she munched on it slowly just to ensure that she had ample energy to deal with what was going on around her. As the Zabrak spoke to the younger male that Adi had just vouched for she listened in a little curious of their talk about the crystals potentially being able to be infected due to their semi-living status. What she found more interesting was the color of the zabrak's lightsaber, she might have to ask him about that at a later date once her status as a force adept was revealed to those around her.
All Knowledge is valuable, you just need to know who to offer it to.
The ignition of the lightsaber brought Kirwin’s full attention to the Zabrak, the stance didn’t look threatening, but he didn’t know any of these people. He started to stand from his chair when the black blade receded into its hilt, allowing him to sit back down. The Zabrak, teenager, and Jedi’s conversation was just loud enough for him to pick up something about lightsabers shorting out, and infected crystals. He didn’t know much about this infection, nor was that really why he was here, he was here on Geir’s behalf and guilt.
Even though he didn’t know anything besides it drove its victim to madness Kirwin decided to have a closer look at what the staff were doing with all their test equipment. He stood up, placed his chair back under its desk, walked past the table filled with boxes of food grabbing a slice on his way to the opposite end of the lab. The staff members barely heeded his presence except to say ‘oh’ every time they turned and he was standing in their way, to which he promptly sidestepped. On the tables and counters were miscellaneous test tubes, beakers, mixers, and other testing equipment, there were also some dissected creatures that Kirwin didn’t know the names of.
Kirwin absentmindedly rested his right hand on his DL-44 and with his left he munched on his food, to which one of the staff saw and cast a worried look at his hip then his hooded face. Realizing the issue Kirwin quickly corrected his stance and continued observing the workers labor over whatever it was they were doing. The more he watched the more curious he got, up to the point he actually picked up a vial and inspected it, “How can you tell what the virus is by this liquid?” he asked reading the HUD analysis of his eye.
::Liquid. Toxic. No life force detected::
The member closest to Kirwin quickly and carefully took it away from him scolding him as she did so, “Don’t touch! This is a sample created by liquifying the tissue of specimen ‘One-Charley-Delta-Four-three-seven’ the cure testing results were negative and became a necrotic toxin that will devour a man’s hand faster than he has time to think. You’re lucky you didn’t spill any on yourself! Now go away!” To which Kirwin quickly backed away and observed from a distance once more making sure to stay out of their way.
Midnight Squad stopped in their tracks. Although their facial expressions weren't visible from the helmets, they were giving him a puzzled expression. The way the guard had talked to them with his mouth full of food was enough to make them cringe as well. Drez stuck his hands out behind him to prevent anyone from drawing out a weapon.
"Relax. We're Midnight Squad, invited here by Adi." Drez replied, using reassuring hand gestures. He knew it wouldn't be necessary to knock out the security guard, since he wasn't showing them any hostility. He'd actually feel pity if they did. The guy didn't even bother them or attack them. He was just doing his job. "Now if you can just point out to us where Adi is, that will be much appreciated."
Real food was a rare luxury for the squad to come by. They had mostly lived off of the bland, tasteless ration bars their whole lives. Though they weren't desperate, they certainly wouldn't mind getting a taste of real food.
