BATTLE ARENA
Welcome to The Saga Continues. We have a section called the Battle Arena. Here you can use your characters to fight other characters. Hone your skills and see what you are made of. Don't worry, anything that happens here, does not effect your characters in posts, so if your character dies, you can still use them over and over. Have fun and check it out!

The two duelists find themselves in a massive hangar, the Main Hangar to be exact. Instead of a Lambda-class Shuttle, TIE Interceptors and TIE/D Defenders hang on racks, and boxes are moved about on turbolifts and repulsor carts. The smell of mechanical fluids linger in the air, and through the view port one can see the blackness of space drifting by.
Combatants, should you have any questions, your assigned judges are @chroniclercato and Ishmael . Good luck and may the best duelist win!
WHEN THE FIRE'S AT MY FEET AGAIN, AND THE VULTURES ALL START CIRCLING, THEY'RE WHISPERING 'YOU'RE OUT OF TIME,' BUT I STILL RISE!
Why had she signed up for this? That was a thought running through her mind as she was walking towards the hangar where she was to duel with someone. There was also many other thoughts on Addison’s mind, but they were irrelevant to what she was walking into now and therefore used her walk to the hangar to clear it all out of her mind. She didn’t even know what to expect, but it intrigued her.
As the door opened and she walked into the hangar, she looked around taking everything in, but what hit her the most was the smell of mechanical fluids. As the door closed behind her, she moved her hand to check that she had her blaster and vibroblade, just making sure that they were still there and that she hadn’t lost them or forgot to take them with her.
She could feel a presence, and it made her hold onto the hilt of her blade a little before she released it. She wanted to see who she was fighting with first. After all she was wearing her cloak, which she would remove pretty fast when her eyes landed on her opponent.
Walking a little more into the room, she scanned the place and on top of a few boxes, she saw him. If she hadn’t been looking, she would never have seen him. She moved her hands to her head and removed the hood before she unhooked the cloak and let it fall, but before it fell to the ground. Moving her right hand to the hilt of her blade as her eyes stayed on her opponent. “Are you ready? Because I’ve never been more ready in my entire life.” She said as she gave him a smirk, feeling the force, even if she hadn't dipped into the full powers of the force.
*Malapert moves to one of the hoversleds sitting around and turns it on. He grabs his lightsaber, arms a thermal detonator, unclips his belt, and flies the hoversled on a crash course with her.*
WHEN THE FIRE'S AT MY FEET AGAIN, AND THE VULTURES ALL START CIRCLING, THEY'RE WHISPERING 'YOU'RE OUT OF TIME,' BUT I STILL RISE!
Addison stood there, her eyes looking at her opponent as she was listening to her breathes. She wasn't breathing fast or anything, it was rather calm; but somehow it calmed her even more to listen to it. She closed her eyes for a second, just listening to it, but had to block it out. She eyes darted open and looked at her opponent, she was sure he had a plan, which was why she refused to take her eyes off him. This was her first duel, and she was going to give it her all, if she went down, she wanted to go down swinging. Not give in until the very end. Still she had a plan to win, to make her trainer proud.
As she heard his words, she couldn’t help but softly laugh herself. It was something about the way that he said it that amused her. She couldn’t get the smirk on her face away as she kept watching him. As she heard the cart and saw it coming towards her, she jumped out of the way and rolled a little before ended back up on her feet. She was now 25 feet away from where she had stood, and was further away from her opponent. She grabbed her blaster and aimed for the engine on the cart, before running for cover, expecting it to explode and as it did, she stayed hidden for a minute before she jumped up and aimed the blaster at her opponent and fired towards him, watching as she wanted to see if it would hit him or not.
She knew that this fight wouldn’t be easy to get through, and she didn’t want it to end too soon, she wanted a show out of it. She put her blaster back in its holster before grabbing her blade by the hilt and pulled it out. She looked towards him as a smirk was clear to see on her face. “Smart move, but not smart enough.” She said before she chuckled and moved a little while taking in her surroundings and watching her opponent at the same time. This was going to be fun, that much she knew. She looked at the different things in the hangar, before looking back at her opponent, she needed a plan, and as she stood there watching him, a wicked laugh escaped her. No, she didn’t need a plan, what she needed was a clear mind and that was exactly what she had.
She let a deep breath escape her as she looked at him, waiting for his next move.
*Malapert jumps off of the hoversled at the same time Addison dives out of its way. He uses Telekinesis to pursue her with it.*

*Addison shoots the hoversled, which explodes. This explosion causes the thermal detonator to explode. Addison is turning to run for cover when these explosions happen, almost on top of her. Malapert is further away and largely unaffected by them.*
WHEN THE FIRE'S AT MY FEET AGAIN, AND THE VULTURES ALL START CIRCLING, THEY'RE WHISPERING 'YOU'RE OUT OF TIME,' BUT I STILL RISE!
Addison sat behind the cover she had taken, thinking that she was in the clear, but how mistaken she was. She heard the sound of the cart coming closer to her and realized that her opponent was using the force to push the cart towards her. She sat there thinking of about how she could get out of the mess, how she could get away from the blast, but she was nervously breathing because she felt like there was no way out. ‘There is always a way out..’ she heard her mother’s voice say in her head. It was something her mother had said to her before she had left home to go on this adventure to find out who her father was. Her mother didn’t want her to go, and wanted Addison to just accept the fact that her father wasn’t in her life, and that there was a way for Addison to put it all in the past. She didn’t want to do that, and so she looked around the place for a way out of this situation, as a part of her was screaming for her to just give in, to lose this battle. “NO, not today!” She screamed at herself to take that thought out of her mind before she got up and saw that the cart was rather close, and she could feel a sensation that she had never felt before, this must be what everybody else with the force felt like when it was building up. “I refuse to give up.” She said more to herself than to her opponent, she was going to make it out of there alive and get one step closer to her father.
As she had decided to fight, she felt the hairs on her back rise and it was almost frightening in a sense, but she knew that this was the force and she just accepted it. As she turned her head to the side, to peak a little, she saw that the cart was coming closer to her. It was now or never, if she didn’t escape from the cart now, she wouldn’t be able to continue because she was dead. She changed her sitting position and was now squatting, waiting for the right moment to strike or at least get away from the cart.
As the moment came, she felt the force flow through her, her eyes was closed because she was concentrating. As they opened again, she felt something she had never felt, and never knew that she was capable of. She opened her eyes and saw that a barrier was around her, and she got up on her feet, looking at the cart for a moment, before she ran a different direction, she wanted something to hide behind because the explosion that she knew was bound to happen, due to her blast at the engine. She kept running, getting closer to her opponent and rested her back against a few boxes as she felt the barrier that she had created go away. As it went away, she took a deep breath. She was rather amazed by herself as she stood there catching her breath, but finally pulled her blade out of the holster, and looked towards her opponent.
As the explosion went off, she tried to shield herself as best way possible for any of the pieces of the cart that might have flown her way. As it calmed down, she took a deep breath. Now she was ready to fight, and to get this over with.
WHEN THE FIRE'S AT MY FEET AGAIN, AND THE VULTURES ALL START CIRCLING, THEY'RE WHISPERING 'YOU'RE OUT OF TIME,' BUT I STILL RISE!
Addison was holding the hilt of her vibroblade, while looking at her opponent. There were so many thoughts running through her mind, and she was sure that the same could be said for her opponent as well. She watched as he drew out his lightsaber, and for a split second, she wished that she had one herself before her eyes returned to her blade and a soft smirk appeared. As much as she wanted a lightsaber, she liked her blade, it had worked for her when she had been training, so she didn’t see why it shouldn’t work for her now.
Her eyes went to look down at her blade, before she looked back at her opponent. He was holding his lightsaber and standing still. In her mind that meant he wanted her to go to him. That was exactly what she was going to do. She looked a little around, still feeling the force building inside of her. Though she couldn’t do much, she might be able to put up a barrier, if needed. As she looked back at him, she knew that this was the moment. She would make her way towards him, to fight him to the death; and she was so ready for it.
She took a deep breath before she put one foot in front of the other, she didn’t bother running. She walked in a normal path, blade in hand, ready to start the fight. It didn’t take her long to walk the distance between them and as she got closer, she was softly chuckled to herself. Yup, this was the time to show what she could do, if she could beat him that would be great, if she died trying, that would be okay with her. At least she was trying, trying to fight and to win. She moved her other hand to the blade as well, so that both hands were holding it, and pointing it towards him. “Let’s end this, shall we?” She said as a smirk appeared again. Either way one of them was going to die, she just prayed that it wasn’t her. After saying the words, she swung her blade towards his; knowing that it would probably hit his lightsaber, but this was how it truly started.
*Addison closes the gap. Malapert gets up and prepares to attack.*
[/span][/ul]

*Addison opens with a double-handed swing aimed at Malapert's lightsaber. Malapert feints a guard, but rotates his lightsaber underneath her slash at first contact.*

*The follow-through of her swing gives Malapert the outside lane. He charges in, and tries to slice through her front knee.*
I'd like to begin this judgment with a simple but heartfelt thank you: dueling has always been very near and dear to my heart, and garnering enough interest in the art to actually host a sixteen-person tournament on TSC is a landmark occasion, which without the both of you would simply be impossible.
Anyway, enough sap. On to the judgment!
This duel was an incredibly entertaining read from start to finish. The antics of a homicidal pest vs. a fresh-faced newbie with a need to prove herself kept me coming back for more. However, there were certain instances where Addison's sentence structure made it difficult to picture exactly what she was doing. One of the key combat tenets for judging criteria is clarity, and there were multiple times I had to read your posts several times- and even reference earlier posts- in order to piece together your move.
-If I had one piece of advice for you, it would be to give your posts an extra read-through before you submit them. Ask yourself if you're painting as crystal clear a picture as you can. Are there unnecessary sentences cluttered throughout your actions? Is there enough detail that anyone could determine at a glance what you're doing? Do you use landmarks in the scenario as reference points to more accurately describe your location? If you exercise due diligence with these I promise you'll see a huge improvement in the finished product.
The next topics I want to discuss are actually the first things that jumped out at me during my initial reading of the fight, and since the two are inextricably intertwined in this instance I'll cover them both now: two key combat tenets that I saw virtually ignored in Addison's posts were Time and Realism.
-The most glaring example is your defense against the explosion caused by your blaster bolt to the hoversled. It appears- and I use that phrasing intentionally, because your exact actions are difficult to discern from your post- that you used an Untrained/Novice level Force Armor or Barrier variant to shield yourself from the blast. I was actually prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt with this one if you had been overwhelmed and taken severe damage, but used it to avoid dying. However, to instinctively create a barrier strong enough to hold under subsequent explosions would be impossible.
-Another example of breaking with realism is when you claim to perform a dodge roll that carries you twenty-five feet. Such a feat of acrobatics is wholly impossible for Humans and Near-Humans without using the Force.
-Your timing in not only dodging the hoversled but outrunning it once Malapert seizes control through Telekinesis to pursue you is completely out of sync with how events would've actually taken place. While 25 mph is pretty slow for a vehicle, it's much faster than the average human is capable of moving, and Malapert goes out of his way to specify that once he uses the force to move the sled, it exceeds that speed.
Another subject I want to touch on is Metagaming. Addison, in one of your posts you state you expect the hoversled to explode, but offer no explanation as to how you came to that conclusion.
-It's important to remember that your character does not know what you, the author, knows unless you can reasonably glean that information from your surroundings. If you can make a rational deduction that leads you the same conclusion, fine, but what I saw here was a clear cut case of metagaming, and a violation of the rules.
Despite all this, the main reason we reached the ruling we did is because Malapert exhibited complete and total control of this match from start to finish. Every single one of his posts dictated absolutely the path the duel would take, leaving his opponent scrambling to react and unable to mount any defense of her own. Even when the move to close range was made, it was at his discretion. Not once for the entire duration of the match was his opponent able to put him in any danger whatsoever.
For these reasons we the judges find Malapert Piffle to be the victor.
Thank you both for your participation in the Battle Arena. Malapert, congratulations. Addison, better luck next time. If you apply the advice I gave you and pay attention to timing and spacial reasoning in your next round, I guarantee you'll see a huge jump in skill level. As always practice makes perfect, so keep your focus on mastering the fundamentals and you'll grow into a duelist to be reckoned with.
