After the junker ship was able to get its engines back on, the Wayward Son was able to get airborne in the midst of battle and depart the dusty planet of Geonosis. Using what was left of the fuel, the group found themselves heading towards another Outer Rim planet: the CIS occupied jungle planet of Felucia.
Raxnna sighed as the alien world of Felucia appeared from the streak of stars outside the viewport. She sighed inwardly there had been a minor emergency at the start of the journey but she'd managed to stop the sparks flying in the hallway for now. "So where on this rock is safe? There's a ton of Sarlacs here right?" She asked her new co-pilot fritz.
Loki had been in the back spending time with Adi while they where in the jump, attending his wounds with bacta patches, and calling him a slew of names. Loki had largely ignored his wounds again, but most of them where already scabbing over. Loki could now be found, back against a bulkhead eye seemingly closed in sleep. He didn't sleep often, a few hours a week if he was lucky, not that he needed it. But he was enjoying the solitude of this bulkhead, he felt the sudden deacceleration a sure sign they had exited hyper-space, he however remained seated where he was, if someone needed him they could find him, his mind was a million light years away. They hadn't yet discussed the fact they where in another time.
Fritz absentmindedly fiddled with a few controls to keep the Wayward Son stable during their atmospheric flight over the Felucia jungles. "I'd think the Saarlacs are the least of our worries, they have Ackleys here, and other large predatory monsters." Fritz replied to Raxanna's question, "Looks like there is a large cliff at two 'o clock. Let's set the Son down on top, might give us a good view of the surrounding area."
As the Wayward Son made its way to the cliff Fritz lowered the newly repaired landing gear. They had stopped at a Republic shipyard along the way, and were able to convince the Superintendent to allow them to make some repairs and refuel, before continuing to Felucia. So the gear wasn't fully opperational, but it would hold for now. The ship came to a hard rest in a clearing on the cliff overlooking the surrounding jungle. "Let's see if we can't make anymore repairs with what we got. Shall we Raxanna?"
Echo and I had slept most of the way to our next destination but were quickly awakened when the Wayward Son set down with a jolt to wake the dead.
"Fritz, I swear by all that is unholy if you crashed this ship again..." Echo started as he got to his feet. The clone was obviously not too happy about being woken up. Neither was I but we had a job to do and sleeping wasn't helping when we could be trying to figure out how to get back to the present.
"Calm down Echo. He saved us all last time, I doubt he'd purposefully crash the ship again." I said rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. "Besides Raxanna is in charge of flying the ship Fritz is just the co-pilot. And this is her ship, she wouldn't crash it to save the universe." We both got up and made our way out of the cargo hold to the main lounge area where we waited to hear if there was a plan from the others.
Rai hadn't been able to sleep for nearly the entire duration of their trip to Felucia. How could anybody sleep now? They had just been victimized by a Sith Lord and sent into the past and now they were trapped in the Clone Wars era. Did nobody realize how truly problematic this was? Not only were they currently at risk of altering the time line with every action they took, but there was a Sith Lord who was standing unopposed in the present (or was it the future now?). Dash was all by himself against this Order of Ruin, and even though the former grandmaster was strong in the Force, he was no match against a Sith order who's numbers were still unknown. The thought sent a shiver down the Cerean's spine and he got up from his cot and stretched downwards to put on his boots.
Rai had objected to the idea of traveling to Felucia, but he was overruled. During the time of the Clone Wars, Felucia was predominately CIS controlled, and even then, it was a constant target for dispute as it served as a major strategic advantage for hyperspace travel. Their chances of being sighted and getting caught up in a battle that wasn't theirs to fight seemed to be astronomically high.
He moved into the main lounge area to find Dogma and Echo and a few of the others already there. He poured himself a glass of blue milk and grabbed a ration bar before sitting down at the table. Taking bite and washing it down with the creamy beverage he reaffirmed his concerns, "I still think this is a bad idea. There are other systems nearby that are more isolated so we can work in private while we try to figure out how the kriff we're supposed to get back to our time." He paused to take another drink, "Every time we cut down a droid, or encounter a republic trooper of any rank, we risk throwing off the timeline and altering the course of the war and of the future. The risk of being here is just to damn high!"
Loki nodded as Rai spoke from his spot leaning against the wall, his cybernetic eye was dark, and his good eye closed.. "I agree Master Jedi." Loki said quietly. "I fear we have altered things terribly so already." Loki said thinking back to the skirmish on Geonosis. "The future is deeply concerning to me, my brother alone is strong, but strong enough to withstand the onslaught of the Order of Ruin? Yes we took some of their number and sent them to the Force, but they most likely have hidden numbers, there are other Jedi spread through out the galaxy, but if my brother knows of them, that I do not know, but even that I fear will not be enough. As for Felucia, I fear we cannot stay here long, this is one of the myriad of hotspots in the galaxy flaring to life as the battle raged on Geonosis, we would be better off hiding on Coruscant or Corellia." Loki said stoically eyes closed, he was both present among his allies and yet also eons away, searching the force feeling the tear where they came through, he then felt for ripples resonating from Korriban, and Zoist, hubs of Darkside power other places where resonating with the tear in space time too. Loki sighed. "The tear is resonating across the galaxy and space time." Loki raised a hand and spheres of light formed, one became two planets, one dark almost purpilish the other gassous and green, then ripples pinged off them from a tear he let form from his other hand. "From the tear in space time to Korriban, from Korriban to Zoist from Zoist to other worlds." Loki's illusion faded but he let the ripples remain stretching every which way. "I have no idea how we will find a way home, but we must, or I fear this may rend the galaxy and the Force to shreds.." Loki said quietly opening his eye and looking at Rai.
Adi was awake the entire trip to Felucia. Indeed, he didn't sleep much anymore, not after the events that had transpired on Carida against the Mandalorians. Besides, he wanted to see what the planet was like before his time. Granted, he knew that being in the past could really screw up the timeline, but he couldn't help but be rather excited to see events he had only witnessed through many holocrons and history tomes.
To a history buff, this was a dream come true....even if they were screwing up the timeline. Then again, Adi didn't believe they were.
Listening to everyone worrying about messing up the timeline, Matango just smiled. He felt differently than the others. He, in his mind, felt they were on the path laid out for them through the force. He waited for a few moments, letting Rai and Loki discuss the time issues before he spoke up.
"What if we are supposed to be exactly where we are...right here, right now? Yeah, the history books don't have us here, but they don't tell everything."
For the first time since before the battle that had destroyed the RDMC, Adi pulled out one of his hand-rolled smokes, and lit it. Sure....he liked the herb and its effects, but still, this was something he adamantly believed in....they were here for a reason. Fate would not allow them to be somewhere they were not supposed to be. Besides....if he was gonna be trapped in the past, at least he would be rather happy about it.
"I know it seems strange, but what if fate intended us to be here all along? I mean, we do nothing without being affected by fate and the force...what if this was the ultimate intention? What if we are -meant- to be here?? I know it sounds strange...but....what if?"
Matango offered the hand-rolled endorian cigarette to Rai, to see how the Cerean would react. A lot could be said for a person if they took it...even if they weren't normally a smoker. He wouldn't be offended if it wasn't taken...but good manners dictated that one should partake of something offered, even if it wasn't the usual thing you did, if only to better understand those you were newly working with. It was an unofficial test, one that had very little riding on it, but still gave much in the way of trust. As for the question Adi had asked, he simply waited for what the others had to say about it.
Rai listened intently to what Loki and Adi both had to say, his brow furrowed in concentration and frustration. There was no denying the fact that they were surrounded by darkness. Rai, like Loki, and surely the others who were force sensitive, could feel the fabric of the galaxy threatening to tear at the seam, wrenched apart by a power so evil and malicious that Rai genuinely began to wonder if they had the resolve to stop it.
He set the glass of milk on the table and closed his eyes with a sigh of dismay, "I don't know. The Force is clouded by the darkside and Ashla feels distant. If there is a power that exists to open the fabric of time, then surely, there must be a way to undo that power." He opened his eyes to find Adi offering him a cigarette. His stomach churned at the thought of the disease and sickness that came from such a nasty, unhealthy habit. "You really need to stop, Adi. It's not healthy for you," He chided sternly, while simultaneously reaching out and grabbing the roll with his left hand. Bringing the end to his lips, he inhaled deeply, feeling his chest becoming tight, the smoke threatening to choke him.
He exhaled somewhat smoothly, the grey smoke whooshing from his parted lips and blowing into the air before dissipating into nothing. Honestly, he didn't feel much, but maybe that's because one hit for someone as big as he was wouldn't be enough.... Oh well. Handing the joint back to Adi, Rai's face fell back to its usual solemness, "Perhaps if we mediated as a group, let our minds merge as one, perhaps Ashla would then light us a path."
Echo had stayed behind in the common area of the ship while I followed Fritz and Raxanna outside to see if I could lend a hand anywhere. “You all talk like this Ashla, and what was that other one you all mentioned? Bogan? Yeah, that was it. You all talk like they are actual physical beings. From my understanding, the Force you Jedi use is just some special power you have that us normal people don’t. Why do you keep mentioning these individuals? Are they really powerful Jedi or something?” Interrupted an annoyed Echo before Rai could continue talking. He wanted action, not sitting around and chanting like Rai had suggested with his mediation, “And if they are Jedi, why don’t we just go to them and ask them to help send us back to the present?” he quizzed the group of Force users, he then mumbled under his breath, “I wouldn’t mind staying here in the past, it’s where all my brothers are anyway.” He then rocked back in his chair before leaned forward waiting for a reply.
Drez stepped out of the shuttle and looked around. Because of the abundant amount of spore plants around, he immediately knew that the planet they were on was Felucia, whether it was mentioned or not. It wasn't the only way he knew, however, as he had been here during the Clone Wars before on a stealth mission. "Hey guys, better watch out for the all the wildlife around here, otherwise you'd be another afternoon snack. Sarlaacs, rancors, acklays, even plants could devour you." He scanned the area for any heat signatures other than themselves but the readings were negative. He then turned to the so called allies he has now. "We have to find the Nysilin plant, because where there's Nyslin, there are farmers and villages." He said as he brought up a holo image of the plant he had mentioned. "Now I've been here before. This is a Separatist occupied planet. So battle droids might close in on our position soon."
Loki listened as Drez spoke. "Unless my history fails me, the CIS as of yet hasn't taken this world, but will in a few weeks we are safe here as anywhere" Loki listened as Rai spoke and nodded "Perhaps Ashla and Bogan together again can find answers that we seek that we could not find alone?" He questioned quietly. "Eons ago, the Je'daii cared not for alignment but for unity and perhaps for the first time in generations we can join forces for the greater good of the galaxy and ourselves." Loki said calmly his eye still closed but his Cybernetic eye was humming to life as he was coming out of his resting state. "Must you offer that disgusting substance to everyone we meet Adi? It smells awful." Loki said wrinkling his nose at Adi.
"Your history does fail you, unless it was recorded differently." Kano replied to the tall Zabrak. "I was here myself during the First Battle of Felucia. We were trying to capture this piece of crap of a planet to secure the Perlemian Trade Route for the Republic. This was an already established Seppies' planet at the beginning of the war." Kano said as he crossed his arms feeling a sense of accomplishment.
The other troopers grinned at Kano's response as got their equipment ready to be taken off of the shuttle. "Are we going to take shelter outside the ship or inside?" Izmar asked as he grabbed a mine out of one of their crates. He was planning on setting up a 'safe zone' around the shuttle to keep foreigners away as well as to alert any of their own that they had wondered off too far from the ship.
"I prefer inside because I don't feel like becoming an acklay's evening snack." Drez replied as he tossed a rod over to Izmar.
"I figure that I would try to spread the love, Loki. It is meant to be shared, you know this. I dont know who smokes or doesn't, but I'm gonna offer either way."
Loki was being his normal paranoid self. It was part of his charm, but it was also an irritant sometimes. Drez and his men seemed worried about the flora and fauna on Felucia. Regardless of who was in possession of the planet, it was still hostile...
...To a point.
"Inside is better, yes. I would rather not be in a position to have to fight any of the..err...locals."
Finishing the smoke, Adi knocked the end off the joint, and put the remainder in his pocket. He turned toward the ship, and headed up the ramp. He was already feeling a bit better, not anywhere near as sore or in pain as he had been. The bones had started knitting...the ones who had worked on him had done an excellent job. Stretching his shoulders as he entered the Wayward Son, he grunted a little.
Ok, so he wasn't quite a hundred percent....yet.
As he made his way inside,he turned, and went into the small shop he had set up in the one corner of the cargo hold. There, the CLoWDS armor had been charging, and Gregory had been running diagnostics. There were several systems that were still inoperable, along with even more in critical state. There were parts that could be scavenged from the RESCUE suit, but the heavier weapons would have to be replaced at another time.
After a couple hours of tinkering with the suit, and getting some of the easier to repair systems back up, Adi plopped into a chair, and sighed. It had been one rollercoaster hill after another ever since he had first returned, then fled, Honoghr. He yawned, and groaned as his ribs reminded him of just how close he had come to dying so very recently. For some odd reason, the Force had seen fit to keep him alive yet again. Perhaps there was a higher purpose....maybe not. Either way, Adi was seriously tired of getting the crap kicked out of him.
They needed to have a fight with some kind of monster who just wanted to have a drinking contest....but Master Frantz was far from a monster, so that was right out the window.
In what seemed like just moments, Adi's eyes had closed, and he had fallen into a brief, but very deep sleep. Now while he had slept some in the trip here, he hadn't really slept like this. His mind was filled with familiar images...ones from times far from where they were. The flashes of light blinked between fire in the streets of Adascopolis, to screams of those being slaughtered. Men, women, children, it mattered not to the forces razing everything. Eerily similar to the plague that would follow it, there were very few survivors. It had started as a small insurrection against the royal family, the Adascas, but it had grown into a seething mob of thousands.
And they were hell bent on the death of every single member of the ruling family.
Adieumus remembered fleeing through the streets, heading for the castle keep. A sniper shot meant for him went slightly off-target, striking his younger sister instead. She had been in their mother's arms, and slumped as the shot struck the young girl in the forehead. One of the royal guards immediately killed the shooter...but it was too late for the little blonde haired girl....
...The true heir to the Adasca family was now dead.
Their mother never left go of the little girl as the family sprinted through the gate. Behind them, the massive doors slammed shut, and the guards that remained took up as strong a defensive position as they could. The normally bustling entrance hall was now only occupied by the small group that had made it through the hail of fire. Adi's father had been among the first to fall in the attack, and his older brother soon after. It was now just Adi, his mother, and his deceased sister. Tears streamed down both their faces, and the young man of 11 was sobbing uncontrollably.
His mother began to somewhat compose herself. Placing the young girl on the hard marble floor, she stood, and walked past the young boy on the floor, putting her hand on his shoulder as she did so. It was as if Adieumus was watching his younger self in the first fight for his life as an outsider. It was here that the dream began to go in an unexpected direction....
Adi's mother began to speak....to him. No, not the boy...to -him-.
"You must. Keep. The Path. You all are our only hope for salvation, my son. Each of you has a role to play....and you must see it through."
The words were shocking...to the point where the Arkanian sat up awake...in a dripping sweat. The words were still ringing in his ears, as if she had been standing right here, and speaking to him face to face. It was entirely too real to be just a dream. What had she meant?? Why him?? Why -them-??
Luckily, Gregory was there to snap Adi out of it.
"Sir, power core diagnostics are complete. We are at ninety-four percent capacity, and the drains on the system have been isolated from the main. We have full use of the flight and repulsor system, along with one of the grenade launchers. The minigun I am afraid, it cannot be salvaged with our current parts inventory. Perhaps we can switch it out for a rotary blaster cannon for now?"
Adi just gave a nod, as he was still somewhat in shock from the dream-turned-drama. He would have to meditate on it, maybe see something that he had not before. Until then, all he was going to be able to do was prepare himself for the inevitable engagement, or engagements, that followed this group like a dark cloud.
As we worked on a section of electronics that Fritz had revealed by opening an access panel, I couldn’t help but feel like we were being watched by someone, or something. Since I wasn’t as smart with spacecraft as Fritz or Roxanna were, I got stuck with tool fetching. It had almost been two hours since we had landed on the planet and the creeping suspicion of being spied stayed in the back of my thoughts as we worked. But no matter how hard I glared into the foliage of the surrounding jungles all I saw were plants and all I heard was distant jungle noises and the occasional zap of sparks from Fritz working.
What I felt, but couldn’t see in the jungle were a curious group of six Felucian farmers who had glimpsed our ship land on the cliff above their small village. They carried make-shift weapons of pitchforks and hoes as a precaution to the off-worlders. Curious eyes peered at the ship, the few clones and the female Zabrak that worked on it, and the possible threat they could be, or the allies they could make. They continued to watch them, unsure of their decision, they were not an aggressive species as they mainly farmed for a living, they were a peaceful people and wished for peace with all who entered their territory. But at the same time, they were a fearful people as they were at every disadvantage for any type of combat, with their beady eyes, stubby arms, thick legs, and short stature.
The group of farmers watched on as we finished up and cleaned up the equipment that had been strewn around. After cleaning up the immediate area Fritz and I sat down on the ground and decided to watch the surrounding area for any intruders or local fauna. Fritz patted the ground next to himself, offering Roxanna a seat as well, “I think that’s all we will be able to accomplish without a proper drydock. Besides we still need to figure out how to get back to our timeline.”
“If where and when we crashed on Geonosis was the very first battle of Geonosis, then that means we are in 22 BBY, and Order 66 hasn’t been issued yet.” I said thinking out loud, “If we could somehow stop it from ever taking place, maybe we could save the Jedi from the destruction of Darth Vader and Palpatine. That might change our future significantly enough that the damned plague never occurs and then we can go back to our original time and not have to worry about rebuilding a destroyed galaxy.” I wasn’t too versed on time travel or the butterfly effect of changing moments in time, but in my mind, we could fix everything just by stopping Palpatine.
“I’m not so sure about that Dogma.” Fritz countered, “I don’t know how we got in this point in time, or how to get back. Or if we could even get back. But it would be an almost impossible task to get near Chancellor Palpatine, as he is guarded by both our brothers and the Jedi.”
“Speaking of Jedi, I wonder if they have figured anything out.” I said indicating the three Force wielders inside the Wayward Son. They had been in their talking this entire time and we hadn’t heard a peep come from the ship except for when Drez stepped out and warned us about the local wildlife. “If there’s any knowing about time-travel they might know something.”
“All this talk of time-travel, with no solution is aggravating me.” Echo said as he stood up from his booth, waving his hand at the group of Jedi, “Stop complaining about these unwritten rules and figure something out. All this talk has me wanting to destroy something,” he pulled out a thermal detonator to emphasize his point, “And the faster we get back to our timeline the more likely it will not be all of us I blow up. Got it?” He never intended to blow up the group, but he was trying to make a point; of time, not time rules.
Putting away the thermal detonator Echo turned to Adi with an outstretched hand, “May I?” he had never tried smoking, his career in the Clone Army and Grand Army of the Republic hadn’t allowed for him to indulge in more than drinks off duty. He wasn’t planning on more than a puff or two, just experimenting. The thought of blowing something up brought a small rush of dopamine to his head and he needed to calm down without blowing something up.
The black armored soldier examined the surrounding forest and ignored the farmers who have been eyeing the crew and the ship for a while. He was never fond of forests or very large vegetation in general because normally there would be a vile creature waiting in the shadows ready to pounce on its next meal. This time was different, however, as he felt drawn to a certain entry point to the forest. He had no idea why he was suddenly so eager to enter the forest, but he turned to his squad members in secrecy. "Hey, I'm going to go check out the edge of the forest. I won't be gone for long." He informed them.
"Would you like us to come with you then?" Ridge asked as he dug a hole in the ground.
Drez shook his head in disagreement. "No. If I'm not back by nightfall, you can let the others know where I went." He said as he turned back around to head into the large wall of vegetation.
He quickly slipped into the forest without being detected from any of the foreign crew members and carried on hiking deeper into the forest. It didn't take long for the sunshine to dim beneath the heavy layers of the forest as he continued to venture deep into the vegetation. He heard animal growls all around him so he kept his weapons ready to prepare for the worst. Yet for some reason, he kept on being drawn to something in the forest, and he didn't know what. However, it was as if he was there before. He felt that he was there before even though he knew for a fact he has never been on Felucia before. It was like he was experiencing deja vu.
After at least walking a few thousand feet away from the Wayward Son, he came to a small opening in the forest. This is where he experienced the strongest attraction up till now but he literally didn't find anything when looking around. He circled the area a couple of times before beginning a scan of the area, both above and below the surface. Nothing. The black armored soldier was overwhelmed with confusion and disappointment now that he wasted so much valuable time. Instead of wandering off into the thick vegetation, he could've put his skills to good use and maybe begin searching for a logical explanation for what happened to them. For now everyone settled on being time traveled back to the Clone Wars for what seemed to be no apparent reason.
Drez shook his head and turned around to head back towards the Wayward Son. Suddenly, someone had jumped down from a tree branch above and accurately shot Drez straight in the middle of the chest. He had no time to react, and when the blaster bolt hit his chest he dropped his weapon out of shock. Looking down at his chest with immense pain, he saw smoke coming out of him. He kept on standing for a few seconds, staring at the person that had just shot him, before his weight caused him to fall hard on his back. He couldn't control his limbs as if he was paralyzed and the only thing he could control was his head and eyes, but even that didn't last long. Darkness began to grow in his vision and fear began to engulf him for the first time. He didn't want to die alone, not like this, not in the middle of nowhere. He had always envisioned himself going out in a heroic way alongside those he cared about. With every passing second, his vision continued to falter as clouded figure wearing pitch black leaning in over him.
"Don't worry. You will survive. What is going to happen soon is bigger than any of us, and I need your help." The figure said. The voice was familiar, extremely familiar, but it wasn't any of the crew members. The figure then injected Drez straight in the neck with a sedative that knocked him out.
