By what nature the pandemic that was sweeping across the universe hit the peaceful planet was unknown. But when it did it rolled over the refreshing peaceful picturesque open boney plains of Dantoonie like a truck over a squirrel setting the peace-loving gentle folk reeling in its' wake
For the second time this rotation, I woke up to Verde Solus’ machinations… only this time it wasn’t whistle tones over the coms, it was his face as the only image I could focus on in a spinning room
“Kid! Focus on me” As I tried to look around to see shattered glass everywhere. As he and the other trooper pulled me from the cockpit, I tried to recollect what had happened The flight was rough. Even with me flying, Codex didn’t was splitting function across systems. So the reversal that hit as the shipped dipped into the ionosphere was enough to knock out the engines. I did my best trying to land what had suddenly become a flying brick; this ship was not built with any sort of aerodynamics in mind. It slid through the ground nose first with a tree branch breaking the windshield Snapping brought me back
“Kid! On me!”
I shook me head… too quickly and instantly regretted the action. I wasn’t in the pilot’s seat anymore, I was lying on the ground in the common area Verde was restraining me, while the other guy was scanning me with medical imaging devices.
“Well you are some miracle kid, you should be dead right now… but you have multiple critically broken bones.Say what you will about that Di'kutla Ordo, he is right when he says that the force is unfair. Normally I would say that we need to double back, but there be no way to get you to honoghr safely. Quite likely we are marooned here until you heal”
Wiggling the fingers on my right hand, I looked at him with a pleading in my eyes and I whispered
“I am a healer…. help me heal” Understanding Verde eased up on his restraint on my right wrist and actually helped me maneuver the hand over the Radial shaft fracture on my left arm as I let energy flow to my palm, I whispered out “Waíse heill.” My palm glowed as I could feel my bone starting to heal in place… but a sharp pain struck all over from the entire spinal column to the beats of my heart. I balled a fist trying to stop the pain, but it was not until my right arm was returned into its restraint did the pain subside
“Well, you are a little Di’kut as well. Your body is healing itself and as such your reserves are being redistributed to heal you and to dull the pain. Trying to heal yourself in that way will push yourself to absolute limits and kill you.”
“Bring me the sealed parcel and a holocron. One of them is in regards to techniques of healing.” Verde nodded and the other trooper went off in search of them.
“I bet you are thankful for my procedures now. If you had your way the entire experiment would be lost right now instead of insulated containers restrained in the keep. Now, I suppose it is time you checked in.” I didn’t catch half of that, as I seemed to pass out halfway through the talk. When I was out, Verde found a camera and transmitted out the mission update
Mission log Update: arrival on Dantooine/Medical emergency
This is Commander Verde Solus of the Grand army of the Jedi service number FS-525. I know you are expecting a different voice, but the mission log is partially to report our arrival on Dantooine, and partially to report medical emergency.
Due to a system error originating from Warp egress, the Delicia had a crash landing on the planet surface. Between the two escort star fighters we could get back to the RDMC no problem. The problem is that the pilot of the Delicia, So’kari Noel Tuhlute, suffered multiple bone fractures and other wounds. The pilot is in stable condition, but the shuttle is not equipped to heal him, and young Tuhlute is in a serious enough state that attempting to self heal with mystic arts only exacerbated the situation. If a medical shuttle and crew can be spared it would be Ihjti sent. If not, the mission will still be completed, although requiring a longer than expected eta back.
Lying in pain on a bed basically meant this mission was over for me. Sure I could still do the observations and the logs… but quite possibly that was all I could do for the longest time. For the time being I am studying the nature of the crystals gifted to me, and hoped that one of them have the key to unlocking the answer. Occasionally I will get a call and through some special goggles, will guide the search for the crystals. Other than that, I am really catching up on my sleep
Ohh sixteen hundred, and here come my associates, right on cue.
“So, how did today’s attempt go?”
“Bloody terrible, we need you in the field. You are the only one of us who knows what he is doing on this mission.”
“So what you are saying”
“I know you claim allergy, but we are out of options, we need you in a bacta tank”
I gritted through the pain and grabbed the edge of my cot at those words. On my home world, we had developed latent force ability that only those with blood from our world could cure themselves of any ills. There were strict rules surrounding the use of this power, and one major trade off… we developed a violent allergy to the most common cure-all known to modern medicine: Bacta. There were alternatives to the treatment… but each relied even the most minutely (from not cleaning out a tank so completely to Bacta being required for the composition
At some point in my struggle I fell sleep…
…When I awoke my mind was ahaze with two realities fighting for dominance within my mind. One was trying to grasp the world around me, the other was grasping to straws of what I had just experienced. When I gained enough control for the first part, I noticed that it wasn’t Verde sitting with at my bedside it was the other soldier.
“Wh…where am I?”
[/span][/ul][/div]
“Where is Cmdr. Solus?”
[/span][/ul]
“I can’t go into a bacta tank”
[/span][/ul] “But I need to be able to contribute”
[/span][/ul]
“The only option at this point is for me to unlock regeneration, or a temporary Cyberneural implant for the base of the brainstem”
[/span][/ul]
“But, Red Dawn currently is struggling to provide services beyond emergency triage and housing”
[/span][/ul]
“And if that is the case then Five Worlds on Corellia would also be out of the question for the same reason.”
[/span][/ul]
“So with those out of the picture where does that leave us? Oh Bogan, I just heard it… on the tip of my tongue”
[/span][/ul]
“Excuse me?”
[/span][/ul]
“…Grandfather…? …No Ruchi?”
[/span][/ul]
“How are you… are you here?”
[/span][/ul]
“How?”
[/span][/ul]
I felt a tear well up as the man I saw right now as my Great-grandfather reached over me to gently embrace
“But how will I do this? Even if everything is in place, it takes a great neurosurgeon and team to do this procedure.”
[/span][/ul]
And with that, the soldier at my bedside slumped over. And for a moment I contemplated all that was told to me, and as a wave of peace washed over me I considered my current mission superfluous to the nature of the cure. When the soldier at my bedside awoke, I gave him instructions to fetch Verde Solus, that for the moment, plans had changed… we needed a ship to get us from Dantooine to Bothawui.
On the next day the team found a shuttle suitable for off world travel, which meant several things for several people. For my traveling companions, it meant finding a vessel that could accommodate three with an appropriate size for someone who is confined to a flat surface yet has a relative krifftonne of useless junk lying around. Additional points were that the self same transport also need to allow at least one of the fighters to dock so those ships weren’t just left like Raxus clutter on the front lawn of what was once the Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin
My task on the other hand was more… Mundane. I had to come up with a cargo list according to priorities so that we didn’t leave anything of high value behind while no over burdening ourselves so that we could dock star fighters should their part work out.
So to classify:
Rations
Viable research
Med supplies
Ominous box labeled “emergency use only”
That was all going
Broken equipment
The contents of the cape closet
About 8.47 billion credits worth of refined crystals
Spoiled food
That was staying behind for the looters.
When the ship was loaded they came for me. I had enough time to send off one last message
Mission log Update: Final transmission…. for now
This log is to indicate a present cessation of my mission to aid in finding a cure to the red-eyed plague. As noted in previous entries, I am in a current need of medical attention, and traditional cure-all tactics won’t work this time around.
I am uploading final studies on all crystals in hopes that one of them will help medical teams sequence the genome. It was never my intention that healing crystals would be the answer to this problem. Merely a conduit to study the problem
To anyone that would seek me out, this transmission will not contain any info as to where I had gone, additional; I have done a thorough job to ensure that any viable sample crystal is not left behind. I have left a forwarding address on hard copy with the ship… if that helps
When that was done, I was sedated for the start of the journey and taken aboard the shuttle that would get us off world. My spirit lingered in what I had known as my abode for sometime after the ship had jumped to warp. It wandered through the ship aimlessly, past the turret station that was never fired, to the bed chamber where the Ashla alchemy amulet lay broken on the floor… and finally over to the comm station where an on screen candle signified the situation on honoghr… and as the spirit faded the candle
