Kano, Lex, and Izmar stormed around the corner that led towards the laboratory's entrance. They quickly entered l but didn't expect to see anyone there. They paused for a moment before Izmar broke the silence.
"Troopers, get your weapons ready now! Enemy has entered the complex!" Izmar roared at the clone as if everything was
Kano and Lex darted past the Fett clones, and and searched the area around for any signs of the troopers that were in stasis.
"Where are the clones that were recovering from stasis?" Lex asked out loud, hoping from an answer from anyone else in the room.
Meanwhile, Kano had rushed over to a panel to look up recent data logs. He was attempting to find the whereabouts of the 4 frozen clones while also finding an escape route out of the facility, away from the heat of battle.
I looked at Rai, dumbfounded. “Am I hearing you right? Tell me I didn’t hear you correctly Jedi.” My feeling of shock at his order and statement change quickly to anger, “You are going to do what? Did you hit your head a little to hard?” I walked toward the Jedi hands splayed out dramatically, “You are going to stop them? You do realize that the only datapad holding the answer to the cure of this galaxy wide plague was just destroyed. Making you MORE VALUABLE than ANYONE else on this planet?! Without that information in that over-sized head of yours the rest of the galaxy is DOOMED!” my voice fluctuated with each emphasized word as I stopped five feet away from him and put my hands on my hips, “I sacrificed my men on Corellia to make sure you made it here to develop a cure. Just to have you throw that away and potentially get killed because…” At that moment someone burst into the lab and started giving orders, I turned on my heel fury in my eyes.
“What the kriff is going on here? There’re no stasis pods here, try the infirmary.” My anger cooled a little when I realized it was the other clones we had met in the hangar, “It’s just us and Rai, who was working on the cure. And we don’t have any weapons, in our retreat we lost our rifles. All we have are our vibro-knives and thermals.” I showed the other clones my empty hands as Echo piped up with a cough.
“If you boys would happen to have any extra armaments that would be much appreciated, but we are currently in discussion on what to do about the development of the cure.” He grimaced as he sat up on his table, “As you can see the terminal and datapad that Rai was using are no more and Rai wants to rush headlong into battle. And there simply aren’t enough of us clones to deal with those Dark Jedi.” He coughed again as he finished speaking.
“Not that we have much time right now, but I would really appreciate it if you could tell us how you survived for this long after the Clone Wars.” Suggested Fritz who appeared to have returned to his normal self after whatever the Sith had done to him. “Are you from Sullust too?”
“You said it yourself Fritz, not now. We can ask them informational questions later. Right now, the pressing question for them is: Do you have extra blasters for us? And for Rai,” I turned back around and faced the seven-foot Jedi, “Will you abandon your cure and doom the galaxy?”
Outwardly, Rai remained cool and collected, his gaze soft yet intrigued by what Dogma felt he needed to say. But inward, he felt irritation began to stir in the pit of his stomach. There goes the clone, losing his temper.... again. Yes, Dogma had sacrificed men and lives had been lost in order for the cure to make it to Honoghr. Rai understood his frustrations, but in his anger, Dogma had become blind to the situation at hand. Now, he was yelling, his face turning red with anger and vein protruding from his forehead as he approached the Cerean with his arms wide. "You aren't the only one to have lost someone, Soldier. And might I remind you I can't make the cure if this building is razed to the ground!" And as if on cue, the walls and the roof seemed to groan. There was no doubt the building's structural integrity was compromised. Was it already a lost cause? If the Red Dawn Medical Center could be saved, then every hand on deck that was capable to fight the Sith was needed. It was imperative that this lab not be destroyed. "You did your duty, Dogma. Your men knew the risks and they valiantly gave their lives for a cause they believed in. If this lab doesn't make it, then they died in vain, and I won't let that happen."
Before he could say any more, another troop of clones barged into the room, demanding to know the status of some frozen clones. As Dogma and Fritz briefly conversed with Drez, Rai knew there was only one thing he could do. Dogma wasn't going to let him leave. And if he did, he wouldn't stop bitching about it, that much was for sure. He'd feel the need to protect Rai personally, and if that were the case, Rai knew the three survivors of Raven Squad would die a needless death.
As Fritz began to ask about how they had survived since the Clone Wars, and with Dogma's back to him (since he turned to address the newcomers), Rai silently backed up and slipped out of the back doorway and into the clouds of smoke that were suffocating the hall. When Dogma would turn around to ask Rai about abandoning the cure and dooming the galaxy, Rai would already be gone.
Before one of the 3 clone troopers could reply, the 24 BX-series commando droids that Drez had dismissed from the shuttle earlier that day entered the laboratory. Each 2 droids were carrying a crate from the shuttle. At first, the 3 clones thought that they were hostile and were ready to shoot until they realized that these droids were the same droids from their own shuttle. The commando droids randomly placed the crates down on the floor and on a table.
Lex quickly rushed over to one of the crates on the table. Knowing what was inside the crates, he immediately put his arm inside, even before the lid was fully removed. He pulled out 3 DC-15s blaster carbines and placed them onto the table next to the crate. Looking at the 3 unknown clones, he then tossed the carbines at each one. "There are your weapons. Anything else?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I suggest discussing the cure when we aren't in this predicament." Izmar said over his shoulder as he waited for Kano to find any results on the other clones, and the escape route.
"Where the hell is Drez now anyways?" Kano asked. He didn't want to say it out loud, but he knew Drez would have a solution to almost anything, even if it is risky.
"Ah Master Rai." Loki said stopping the man just as he slipped into the smog ridden halls. "We are evacuating the entire facility, if you will gather your men, we can work on the cure elsewhere, or let the virus weed itself out one of the two, but we must get a medical professional such as yourself away from here." Loki said, still holding the mask in his hands of Ryu, but he had tucked the saber within his robes. "The facility is falling apart." Loki looked the being in the eyes and noticed the change between down in the hanger and now. "Are you alright Master Rai?" Loki could sense a change in the air, the being seemed determined but to what? Loki expected him to be working on the cure as Adi had mentioned, not running towards where Loki could feel the fight brewing, and the smell of fire. "I'm sure the other masters have the battle in hand, we should retreat." Loki reinterred. "We can lead those men to safety by now there have to be troops in here, I can hear blaster fire up ahead and back down from where I came. They've invaded fully, we'll need to get the civilians to safety." Loki said, almost pleadingly.
A string of profanity left my mouth when I saw the vacant area where Rai had stood. One would think a person would give a little gratitude to the group that saved his life, and put into consideration what they had to say before running off like a child who was told they couldn’t have a piece of candy. I turned back just in time to catch the DC-15s that had been thrown my way. The feel of the standard issue rifle felt like shaking hands with an old friend. My anger at Rai just leaving like he did was not abated in the least by the new weapon in my hand.
Fritz easily caught the airborne projectile while Echo fumbled against the thrown weapon for a second, “The Deesee is great and all, but you wouldn’t happen to have a rotor [Z-6 rotary blaster cannon] in those crates?” Echo inquired setting his blaster on the table as he climbed off and stood straight up with a slight grimace. “Not to sound ungrateful for the blaster, but I like something that does a little more destruction, if you know what I mean.”
“Echo, they weren’t planning on arming a whole army. They just happened to have extra weapons for the few troops they were going to thaw out.” Fritz berated as he walked over to the terminal that one of the three newcomers had gone to. “Here, your looking in the wrong place, may I brother?” without waiting for an answer Fritz nudged the other clone out of his way, typed a couple key strokes and pulled up the recent log input stating the room and progress of the in-stasis clones, “There, you see? Main Infirmary #2, looks like they had 3 thawed out and set up for recovery before the attack. One is still thawing.” Fritz stepped back and smiled at his brother’s helmet, “Name’s Fritz, designation CT-4817. That’s Echo right there, or CT-3355. The hothead over there is Dogma, or CT-9734. What’s yours?”
“Not to sound needy, but you wouldn’t happen to have any extra suits of armor laying around, would you?” I asked in response to the question by the commando armor wearing clone as Fritz helped the other clone at the terminal. “This Republic armor is nice, if you like getting hurt easily.”
"You want a Z6 with that injury of yours?" Lex scoffed at Echo. Of course, he admired the fact that Fett clones would fight no matter what, but this isn't the Clone Wars anymore. Things are different now.
Kano nodded in approval. "Well thanks for you help, Fritz. Name's Kano, by the way." He replied to Fritz, finally giving some attention to the clones they just met. He quickly studied the layout of the facility to find the fastest route to the thawing clone brothers.
Meanwhile, Izmar was trying to get ahold of Drez. However, all he was getting was static on the commslink. This wasn't like him, but if there's one thing he knew, there's nothing that could stop Drez. "How do you know about the clones that are thawing though?" Izmar asked suspiciously. Of course, all Fett clones were considered brothers to him, but he didn't expect for these new clones to know about the frozen clones just yet.
"We do have extra clone trooper armor but now isn't the time for that." Someone said as the laboratory's doors hissed open. The clone troopers turned around to look at the source of the all too familiar voice. It was Drez.
Fritz looked at the quizzical clone and was just about to explain when a fourth trooper walked in. His explanation would have consisted of how they had stormed into the room asking about stasised clones, and that carbonite was one of the most effective stasis procedures. Especially since they are clones and most likely have been in stasis since the Clone Wars.
“That is unfortunate.” I said, accidentally cutting off Fritz, in response to the newcomer, “It is also unfortunate that I do not know the layout of this facility and thus have no idea where the infirmaries are.” The disappearance of Rai had momentarily left the forefront of my mind with the recent discussion of more clones, weapons, and armor. “And, we know about the other clones because that was the first thing you said after walking into the room.”
Echo looked at the scoffing trooper where his eyes would have been behind the visor, “I could take you on in my condition with one arm tied behind my back. The New Republic never issued Z-6’s and I’ve been away from mine for a very long time. The A-280's they do issue are, in my opinion, garbage compared to the Old Republic weaponry. If you don’t have one that’s fine, but I’ll kick your ass next time you question my ability or resolve.” He smiled at the end of the warning to try and lighten the mood of the message. “Besides, I could do with some explosions right about now. Demo expert Echo ready for round two.”
“I agree with Echo, doing some damage to these attackers sounds good right about now.” I confirmed with a steely look at the trooper who had recently walked in and I presumed to be the squad leader. “We are willing to work with you to do whatever you need to get done.” Then I remembered Rai, “And we need to find the Cerean Jedi that was here. He must stay alive at all costs.”
Rai didn't make it far down the hallway before he was intercepted. In fact, he had sensed him approaching and was moving to confront the darksider before he could strike down the remnants of Raven Squad. But now, Rai found himself standing at odds with yet another giant, mutated Zabrak, looking very similar to that of Master Dash. But this one was different.
He reeked of the Darkside.
Even as Loki spoke, Rai was rigid, tense, with his lightsaber unlit but clutched in his right hand. Rai briefly remembered seeing this zabrak in the hangar, but he wasn't entirely sure. Everything had happened so fast that it was just a giant blur. But this darksider certainly knew Rai's name, and even more, he knew of the healer's purpose here. He must have overheard Dogma's impatient statements in the hangar upon their arrival.
"Tell me, Sith, why should I trust you? Is it not your own people who bring death on this day?" He spoke through clenched teeth. He too heard the distant blaster fire. Yes, it appeared through the Force that the remaining darksiders had brought reinforcements. And this zabrak thought the three lightsiders that were standing against them could hold them all off? How naive of him to think so! They'd be overrun and Rai knew undoubtedly they would need assistance with a retreat.
Everything was clouded by the darkside, and truly, Rai didn't know what the best course of action was. All he knew was that his friends, and ultimately, the galaxy at whole, was endangered by the arrival of this Order of Ruin. And now, a Sith stood before him, claiming to be friend and not foe. But this wasn't the first Sith Rai had ever encountered, and it probably wouldn't be his last. Sith were known for their deceptive nature. What they lack in power, they make up with trickery and deceit. Why would this one be any different? It was obvious that he was trying to get Rai to lower his guard so that he could strike....
Rai's lightsaber ignited and the emerald blade rushed forward with the traditional snap-hiss. He never let his gaze waver as he stared down Loki. "This is your one warning, Sith. Leave this place now, or be apprehended."
Loki sighed as Rai lit his saber, and asked him why he should trust him, truer words not spoken, Nysato was besieged, the enemy held the upper hand, all of Loki's instinct screamed to betray those he called friends, Atton,Adi, the other Jedi he had met and saved since Naboo, everyone here, with a simple action here and now he could make a case to join this new sprung Order of Ruin, but no, he would not. Loki hoped he would not come to regret this choice. With a wave of his hand, his weapons flew off his belts, two saber staffs, the Jedi Whitesaber that had been loaned to him, his own Darksaber, and two curved hilted blades, as well as the blaster he had taken off the corpse in the hanger. They landed at Rai's feet. "I surrender, I can see there is no reasoning in your eyes, but I will not be responsible for causing more strife than is already here." Loki could feel the bond within him resonate to his choice as he nodded to himself. For you brave one, I have chosen this path, even if you are not here. He thought to himself as Rai stared him down. "I renounced my title of Dark Lord a year ago, I met a little Jedi Master, and a Seer, they changed my outlook, though I still fight with the Darkside, it is a personal choice to use Bogan for good, and not for destruction of inherent good things, a wise man said to me, The Force doesn't choose sides, we do, I have chosen this side because it appeals to who I have become, yes it would be easy to rip you, and the others in the lab apart, join the attackers and get away with my life, but I would rather die with honor than betray those who have entrusted me with their lives." Loki finished the blaster fire wasn't any closer, but it soon would move this way. But now it was in Rai's hands what would happen next, Rai most likely thought Loki would attack, rather than hand over all his weapons. Years ago, Loki wouldn't have spoken, he'd have attacked from the onset, words where a wanton waste of time, monologuing was for victory not battle.
"Clone Wars weapons will always be superior to anything else." Izmar said while looking down at his DC-17m interchangeable weapon system. It was a unique weapon, and very versatile. The attachments gave it many uses, including sniping and explosive abilities.
"Well how the heck are we supposed to protect that Jedi if he keeps wandering around everywhere?" Lex groaned upon finding out that protecting the Jedi that exited the laboratory was a mandatory task. Lex took a few detonators from the crates and put them away in his inventory for future use if needed.
"I might not know where the recovering troopers are, but I could track them down using their biological signatures." Kano informed the clones. "It could take me a minute or so to locate them."
Drez turned to the clones that they had just met. "You three! If you can get these on in under a minute, maybe you'll be able to keep up with us today." Drez said as he pushed 3 crates towards the newly met clones with his legs.
Trying not to act like little kids that had just received presents Echo, Fritz and I quickly started unloading the crates that had slid our ways. “We’ve got names, brother.” I said, pointing at each one, “Echo, Fritz, Dogma. And we still don’t know yours.” We quickly stripped down to our under garb then slid on the black body glove lining that all the armor plates and pieces would cover. The trooper’s unrealistic idea of under a minute challenged me, but I knew it would take at least five minutes to properly secure every piece of armor to our bodies.
“Rai hasn’t been too much trouble, this is the first time he disappeared on us.” Said Fritz as he helped Echo secure is chest piece. “But we helped rescue him from Corellia because he claimed to have the cure for this plague that hit the galaxy. That is why he is so important. His disappearance puts this whole operation at risk, especially with his recent proclamation of battle willingness.” Fritz finished securing his greaves and vambraces as he finished his explanation to the apparent leader of the other squad of clones.
I had already finished and was looking at the different helmets that had been supplied. I was about to take a standard Phase II helmet when the Paratrooper helm caught my eye. I quickly scooped it up and donned it. Since it was a standard size it was an obvious perfect fit. I looked over to Fritz, appropriately choosing a pilot helm, and echo chose the BARC style helm. We all turned back to our brothers and removed our helmets.
“We look like Shinys. It’s been forever since I was a Shiny, let’s go get this armor dirty.” Said Echo as he removed his helm.
“We need to find Rai, and they need to find the rest of their company.” I told Echo with a side glance. It did feel good to be back in standard Phase II Clone armor, and I was ready to get down to business. I just wanted to hear what the other squad had planned, before we rushed off into the fray again, remembering what had happened last time we got into a fight with Sith.
Drez quickly introduced each clone and himself as well so that the other clones would stop asking. To be honest, he didn't really care about names. He just cared that he would be able to communicate with anyone he wanted to or needed to. Still though, knowing names would prove its benefits later, and would help to eliminate any hostile feelings mostly and help to build some trust among them.
"Alright, I've located the other clones, Drez." Kano informed Drez. "They're a few hallways away, but nothing too far. We could make it there in under a few minutes if we ran."
"Good, because we're going to need all the help we can get now." Drez replied while pressing a button on his wrist. All 24 of the BX commando droids pulled out their blasters from behind their backs, where these types of droids always stow away weapons. The droids were now ready for action and were awaiting orders from Drez and his team of clones.
Izmar overheard Echo's remark on them being shinies. "Well that's because you are shinies to us, rookies. Listen to us, and you might just probably get off this planet alive." He grinned as he placed his palm on Echo's shiny, new armor.
"So I guess maybe we could split up? Some of us go for the clones while the rest go for Rai?" Lex suggested.
Loki could feel the bond within him resonate to his choice as he nodded to himself. For you brave one, I have chosen this path, even if you are not here. He thought to himself as Rai stared him down. Loki finished the blaster fire wasn't any closer, but it soon would move this way. But now it was in Rai's hands what would happen next, Rai most likely thought Loki would attack, rather than hand over all his weapons. Years ago, Loki wouldn't have spoken, he'd have attacked from the onset, words where a wanton waste of time, monologuing was for victory not battle.
Rai took a step backwards and flourished his blade in a circle as the weapons left Loki's belt with a wave of his hand, expecting some sort of telekinetic attack. Even as the weapons clattered to the ground in front of him, Rai did not lower his guard. His ears listened to the Sith's words as the Cerean's eyes narrowed to slits. "It is impossible to use Bogan for good." The weapons of Loki began to hover in the air as Rai inspected them, his eyes immediately drawn to the Jedi whitesaber. "Let me guess, you're going to want me to believe that you borrowed this and didn't steal it?" He growled as all of the weapons attached themselves to various parts of his belt.
Rai would admit to himself that Loki's choice of surrendering was not the expected action. In fact, Rai had fully anticipated the Sith in front of him to retaliate with force, a trait commonly found amongst those who drown in the corrupt waters of the dark side. But now, everything was clouded by the darkside and Rai couldn't find the truth amongst the deceit. All he could sense was chaos and death. There was no light left. Not here.
He approached Loki slowly, his blade pointed horizontally at the Zabrak's chest. "Turn around, on your knees and hands on your head. In the name of Republic, you're under arrest, Sith." With his free left hand, Rai reached into the folds of his cloak and removed a pair of stun cuffs that he would then use to restrain the Zabrak's hands behind his back.
Loki turned slowly, and as he did, a number of things happened. Troopers turned the corner, wearing the armor of the invading Order of Ruin, then an explosion of monumental proportions ripped through the facility. A blue light flashed on Loki's wrist link, and an alarm rang from it then turned into a shrill whistle as it turned red and flashed, Loki fell to a knee as the shockwave hit the corridor they stood in. Loki growled with rage as the troopers stumbled and opened fire on himself and Rai. Loki ducked and dodged, as he surged forward dust and smoke from the hanger explosion began to fill the corridor.
Loki charged under the first troopers blaster and slammed his palm into the mans chin while twisting his arm and shooting another with the other's blaster in the face another he kicked into the wall denting and caving the Durasteel plating. Loki turned as another blaster bolt shot towards him, he ducked and threw the man he still held into another, more turned the corner and Loki waded into them, unarmed, his rage and the force sustaining his attack, he grabbed one of the troopers and snapped his neck, the next volley of blaster bolts he stopped with his hand catching them and absorbing the energy, he then let loose with the force, crushing one's wind pipe while tossing the other into the ceiling, still more came on he fell to his knees as a flurry of blaster bolts shot his way, sliding forward he grabbed two of the troopers around the middle and slammed them into the ground, slamming his palm into each ones throat, the next man, took the butt of his rifle to Loki's face, Loki's head turned and he spit, as he turned back to look the man in the eyes as lightning formed on his finger tips and he ripped into the remaining troopers, the lightning arching from one to the next as they screamed and writhed in agony. Loki sneered and snarled during the affair, as the dust cleared momentarily he looked back at Rai. "Adimeus need's me, you can arrest me later or come with me." Loki said evenly holding up the wrist link. "This means he is nearly dead." With that Loki turned and began to walk slowly down the corridor, one of the troopers was muttering into a radio about a demon, Loki flicked his wrist and the man flew into the air, Loki twisted his hands and the mans torso twisted one way, while his legs went the other, Loki did this without stopping his moving and he began to jog back the way he had come towards the hanger. "ATTON!" He bellowed, knowing Atton would have also gotten the alert.
