Our progress across the hangar bay is unimpeded. The mercenaries Andor hired made sure of that. With the blaster fire ringing in my ears, I proceed to the lift, expressionless. None of this interests me- teamwork, tactics, strategy. I'm here for him, and him alone. The Lord of Deception has nominated himself as the leader of our merry little band, and that's fine. He has devised a plan to liberate the sentient known as Nemo, and likewise that's fine. None of it pertains to my goal, so how could I have a preference?
Still, I'll have to cooperate with my compatriots for now. I can't hope to kill Ryu while he's surrounded by other Forceful. Hell, it will take something akin to a miracle for me to manage it at all, but that's what makes it so exciting, you see? I thrive on the difficulty such a task poses- the last challenge available to me in a quickly shrinking galaxy.
I stepped into the lift alongside my colleague from the Order of Ruin, and we exchanged a short glance, one that lacked any warmth or trust. I'm fine with that; all I need is for him to do his job, and hold his share of the weight.
I said as the doors to the lift hissed shut. "Along with a few other Forcefuls. They'll turn the elevator to slag the moment the doors open. I can shield us, but I'll need your strength as well."[/ul]
Without further ado I reach out to touch the dark side, plunging my will into its icy depths and putting it to task. A Force Barrier immediately shimmers into existence, and this time I take a trick out of Ryu's own book. The Barrier takes the form of interlocking hexagonal plates, millimeters thick but infinitely durable and conforming to the doorway of the elevator. My brow furrows as I pour more power into it, and the plates glow brighter.
*The elevator begins its descent to our level. On board it are, as expected, my True Son. There's someone else, too; one I'm not familiar with. Though I haven't met him, we're colleagues in the Order of Ruin. But depending on how philosophical you want to get about it, isn't that true of us all?
Tal has erected a Barrier, I can see it from this far away. Looks just like one of mine; there's no mistaking it. If that's the case, then it means we're going to be wasting our time with a barrage as soon as the doors peel open. The car is still a few floors above us, so with what little time left to us I call out to the gunmen behind me.*
[/ul]
*If it were me in that elevator, and I had another guy with me, I would place a Barrier and concentrate everything on keeping it up so that my partner could manipulate the Force at will to affect our enemies. And, it's not for nothing that Lapay no Tal has followed in my footsteps.
Therefore, it's doubly important that I am prepared to reply with my own Barrier. If a stalemate situation develops, then we outnumber them. Once both Barriers go out, then we have an advantage. Concentrate, Ryu, concentrate. You must survive the other one's attacks.
Fortunately, for as long as they keep the elevator stuck on our floor, the others won't be able to get down here...will they?
I call out once again, this time to Mel.*
[/ul]
*I give one last glance behind me, checking to see where the evacuation cargo hauler has gotten. The operators are moving it down the hallway, far far slower than anyone in an emergency situation has a right to go. Like, okay, I do understand that safe operations take precedence…but there's a time when operating things according to all of the prescribed safety features is actually endangering to everyone else. Sometimes safety ought to be sacrificed, right guys?
But that's the last of my attention that I can spare. I stop focusing on them and return my gaze to the elevator car, which is nearing arrival. Anything less than everything I've got, and I'm sure it will be lethal. This is going to be a real mess, isn't it.*
It occurred to Makoto when the Sith began to speak that the OpFor would be expecting the defenders to open fire. They continued their ascent toward the Detention block in spite of that, so he had to suspect that there was something else at play in this scenario. He knew that simply firing into the abyss would avail him nothing but a waste of power cells.
So, he opted for the next best thing. The Icarii mentioned a signal, which he would give at the most opportune moment and enlist the others to open fire. That was perfect.
All of 5 meters from the Sith Lord, Makoto reached back for his bandolier and grabbed hold of one of his non-lethal bits of ordinance. The Glop grenade was a perfect choice for choking a position, and since it would not cause physical harm, it would realistically not matter if he happened to catch the Dark Lord in the blast radius.
Not that he intended to, obviously. He had some senator or another by the balls, so letting him come to harm would be a dangerous move at the moment. What took precedence above all else was assuring that the men headed right for them made no headway toward the cell.
He glanced at the Cargo Mover for a moment, dissatisfied with its speed, but resigned to the fact it could move no faster at safe operating speeds. That was probably the difference between him and his ally-of-convenience. No risks could be taken with the movement of Nemo.
He was too dangerous.
Makoto primed the grenade and angled himself such that he could toss the small object into the relative area of the elevator door the moment he had a clear throw. Off to one side, they wouldn't see the action until they cleared the wall obscuring him from view.
Andor watched idly as Ishmael moved into the elevator to stand beside him and began piecing together hexagonal looking plates as he forged an impenetrable barrier through the Force, telling Andor that he needed his power as well. Andor rolled his eyes.
"I don't think so." Give the Lord of Corruption his power? That was just asking for betrayal... Not only would Andor be defenseless when the elevator opened if Ishmael's barrier gave way, but Ishmael could turn on him at any moment anyways. There was one thing all Sith had in common, and it was to not trust anyone except themselves. Besides, wasn't the plan to have that trooper use his battle mediation anyways?
Andor closed his eyes and holstered his pistol so that he could have both hands free to deal with whatever was coming. He felt the Force around him and he could feel FS-525's presence swimming around him, empowering him. The energy was cold and electrifying as it coursed through his veins, building with every second.
Then, he felt the elevator grind to halt, the speaker announcing that they had reached their designated level. The doors hissed open and the light from the detention level descended upon the two Sith Lords as they stood side by side. The Sith Lord smiled a devilish smile as he licked his lips in anticipation.
As they would leave the elevator, Andor would press a button on the elevator control panel to send it back to Kirwin's location. That way, by the time he brought the viper probe droid up, Ishmael and Andor would have already cleared the path to Nemo.
